I think it's kind of the inverse of retro-futurism. Instead of looking at the future from the lens of the past, they're looking at the past from the lens of the future (or rather the present).

The sad thing is that no one likes to use the mid-2000s logos which I think are the best looking logos for most brands. They had more complex text outlines and shadows as well as equally complex box/bottle graphics. It's a shame that the trend is to not look interesting regardless of its actual appeal. I don't appreciate the minimalist and block designs for absolutely everything, and I wish they would stop.

Even if this channel ends up being mostly about updates of logos/brands as they happen with some constructive feedback, I am totally good with that!

I actually love the 2008 design of the Pepsi globe and think the new shape of the white stripe was an improvement. The 3D version of the 2008 globe is especially cool.

4:08 lets not forget Pizza Hut's 90s logo is still widely in use by basically every country outside the US.

I still think Covid 19 is the main aspect of defining the 2020s as the nostalgia age. I think it was due to having the comfort of remembering a better time and having the uncertainty as to how long the lockdowns would last. At that time, there was nothing to look forward to so we started looking back instead. This decade just has Nostalgia adopted into all media like most music trying to sound like old music, fashion trends being recycled, branding reverting back to old logos, movie sequels to decade old franchises, retro gaming becoming more popular than ever etc.

The Reebok rebrand is the only one of these I actually like, more logos need to have strong silhouettes with sharp edges.
I honestly despise the faux-retro look of these other brands, though. The typefaces they use are so obnoxious, and most of the design elements look nothing like anything from before 2014.

My funny story about the co op logo change is that I, of course, noticed their rebrand and was semi analysing how it was a reaction to very flat, minimalist logos being the trend of the time. To me, it looked very modern.
So imagine my shock when my dad was looking through old photos and I see the exact same co op sign! I had literally no clue how such an anachronistic sign could've gotten there... Until, of course, he explained to me that the logo wasn't exactly new, and it was actually a return to a previous design.
Which makes a lot more sense than time travellers.

only if their products would be just as good as they were in the 80s and 90s

I believe this might be the overdue backlash to soulless minimalism. Its beautiful, may we never see the horrors of flat design ever again

I hope WH Smith consider going back to their '70s logo, as the new one is the most sterile design I've ever seen.
