  I was one of the original crew members aboard the Nimitz. <br> At the time the movie was filmed the U.S.S. Nimitz had never been to the Pacific. All at sea footage of the ship was off the east coast. The pier scenes were at Norfolk Va. Navy Base.

  Charles Durning&apos;s military service reminds me of James Doohan who played Scotty in Star Trek ! He was wounded five times on D-Day fighting for Canada !

  My cousin flew F-14 fighters in the Jolly Rogers ! He also played football for Navy and still holds college football records and even went to the real Top Gun ! He is Anthony Ponseigo !

  A highly underrated film. &nbsp;I loved it as a kid and the surprise ending where you find out the defense contractor who formed the company was the one guy left behind in 1941 is awesome.

  One of my favorite memories from my time going to College in San Diego was having a job on Coronado Beach. The bridge to Coronado was tall enough to allow the Naval Ships to pass underneath it. One day to my complete shock the Nimitz was passing underneath the Bridge as the bus was going over it. I will never forget the sight. It was like a floating City. The entire crew was in Whites lined up along the bow of the Ship at attention. When I got off of work they were still there. That&apos;s how long it took to move the Carrier back out to sea. The word that comes to mind is Awesome.

  When I first saw “The Final Countdown” (1980) in a theater I noticed that when the Japanese plane was brought down, (“splashed”) the whole theater cheered, expect for the row in front of me. &nbsp;When the lights came up I noticed that the row was filled with elderly Japanese people, who were very quiet.<br>I also remember when AH (Avalon Hill) included a “Final Countdown Option” in their game “Carrier”, which allowed the Nimitz to take on a Japanese fleet.<br>Thank you for the video.

  I think the Captain made the right choice when he reminded his officers they were still a United States warship and were obligated to defend the country no matter what time in history his ship was in.
