I just cured 5 years of chronic insomia by getting a mini chihuahua and letting him sleep on my neck and pillow. Within 6 weeks of having him I began sleeping a full 8 or even more at times. No meds. No nothing. Just pure dog.

From a senior citizen: this is such common sense, great advise from a wonderful , common sense Dr. We need more Psychiatrists like this, who look at the whole picture not just throw medications at people. Thank you Doctor. You are absolutely doing the right thing giving this kind of advise.God Bless You.,

My 48 year old friend took her own life last year due to not being able to cope with chronic insomnia and the effects it had on her the next day as it gave her anxiety. Most of the things in the video didn't apply as she didn't work and lived with supportive family and had loving supportive partner and really didn't need to do anything. Strict sugar free anti candida private nutritionist prescribed diet. No official found medical reason for not sleeping. What I have to keep coming back to is she was given mirtazapine by the doctors which seemed to stop working to help her to sleep after a while. The only thing the docs had to offer her was further medication. This is in the UK. Her nutritionist put her on ashwhaghanda and lots of supplements. The doctor prescribed her propanolol on top of the mirtazapine. She died due to overdose of the propanolol. The docs in the UK should know better than to prescribe propanolol to anyone on anti depressants because this has happened a few times before, I found the coroners reports saying the docs need to stop doing it yet they still do.<br>They offered me mirtazapine when I couldn't sleep after my friends death. I politely declined and held back from telling them what they could do with it!

The single biggest change I made that improved my sleep quality was quitting drinking alcohol. As someone who struggled with alcohol addiction for 15 years, I would maybe sleep 4-5 hours per night and wake up super early because I was hung over and withdrawaling. Now I've been sober for over 1 year and I sleep around 6-8 hours per night and wake up natrually around 7:30am.. no more sleeping the days away because I'm hung over anymore lol

Downtime during the day for me is a 20-25 minute walk around the campus of my work with ear buds and calming music. Just getting outside, away from my desk in a busy healthcare setting is essential.

Dr. Witt-Döering, you are a treasure. In my case i found i sleep really well without carbs and by eating fatty meat. It gets ruined when i drink alcohol.

It’s insane to me that the doctors don’t medically titrate the patient off of the drug. They prescribe dangerous drug and the. don’t even guide them through the transition. if going off them which could literally kill them
