  My suspicion is that the $ allocated to maintenance of nukes is enormous and it’s all been stolen via corruption like everything else in Russia

  “Mutually Assured Corruption” is the best term I’ve heard for the hypothesis that Russia’s nuclear arsenal has not been properly maintained as you’ve described.

  Former nuke engineer here. These things deteriorate and require constant maintenance. &nbsp; Even with that, radiation ☢️ from the warhead material fries the electronics over time. &nbsp; It’s known by some design engineers but not acknowledged by the military for political purposes and plausible deniability. It’s still counts towards the bluff threat, however. 😉

  I speculated that all the Russian saber rattling about using nuclear weapons in Ukraine was hollow because almost all of the Nuclear weapons Russia has are from the soviet era which makes them over 30 years old and poorly maintained. &nbsp;Missile components like circuit boards don&apos;t work at that age and, because of radioactive decay of the fissile material used in nuclear warheads, the weapons become much less reliable (possibly exploding when they are launched) and effective. &nbsp;Russia confirmed this bit of speculation after they tried to launch these missiles and they blew up in/near the silos they were launched from.

  Probably the silo lids dont even open. After 80+ years of trittium wasting away ,it would be a miracle if any worked . A weapon that is never intended to be used absolutely is a prime target for grift .

  In the late 80’s, I worked as a guard at a host nation special weapons facility, it was my first job in the army. In the 3 years I worked there I can’t tell you how many hours they spent on just maintenance on them. It was like the main activity, over and over again and is MP’s had to stand there bored out of our minds. It was positively the worst job I ever did and I stirred the shit barrels in Afghanistan. (Everybody had to take a turn, even the CO) some how I don’t think the Russians are taking the same actions.

  I’ve been saying they don’t work anymore the more you look into the money. &nbsp;We spend more just on making sure our nukes are maintained than russian spends on their entire military. So how are they being maintained? They aren’t. Period
