The more people that overpay for houses (not even a high demand area) the higher the prices go. Stop it! It trickles down to the locals!

I am an American who loves Vietnam, I go to Vietnam often, and intend to retire their eventually. BUT, expats need to realize that when you go to Vietnam you need to try to live like locals as much as possible. Don't go to Vietnam with the mentality of "it's so much cheaper here than where I am from, so who cares if I am over paying it's still so cheap compared to where I came from". That mentality is how Vietnam will stop being an affordable place to live.

For example the same thing happened to Las Vegas. Californians flooded Las Vegas after the 2020 lockdowns. Californians were used to paying 800k-1 million for a 3 bedroom home, they sold those homes and came to Las Vegas where a 3 bedroom home only cost 350k... Now 6 years later after 1.2 million people moved to Las Vegas in 6 years, those 3 bedroom homes that were 350k now cost 650k, literally. Rent's did the same exact thing. So keep that in mind when you go over to Vietnam and think who cares what the price is, it's cheaper than what I was paying in my home country, that mentality is how you quickly ruin a place. Respect the locals, a lot of them don't have the option to just up and move somewhere else, so don't ruin their homeland.

Journaling app is a nice side project. Acquiring people to pay enough for it is tough. You'll need to bring in an actual engineer to fix scaling issues as you acquire more users. I'm not discouraging you but i think you're better off leveraging whatever you were good at in corporate and getting clients to pay for that.

Health insurance is also inexpensive in vn. You can get decent plans for about 1$ a day. Stop eating out 4 days a month and you can already afford it. Routine procedures are cheap but if you get seriously sick, you'll want that insurance.

Enjoy vietnam🎉

I notice many of these videos include couples without kids. Up and going is so much easier if it's just the two of you.

This story shows a woman who didn’t leave Australia to escape failure — she left because success wasn’t giving her a life she could actually feel. Everything she describes carries the same thread: the quiet burnout that hides inside routines that look perfect from the outside, the fear of disappointing the people who sacrificed for her, and the slow realization that identity built over 15 years can’t breathe if every day is shaped by alarms, commutes, and expectations. Vietnam didn’t turn her into someone new; it gave her enough space to stop performing and start living. You see the shift in how she talks — from corporate structure to freedom of time, from exhaustion to creativity, from obligation to choice. It’s not a fantasy; she keeps the discomforts in view. But the deeper truth is simple: she chose a life that fits her, not the one she was taught to maintain. And in that space, the real version of her finally had room to appear. 😀

Yes the house is nice, but wait until the whole full real story is told: people must remember that in Vietnam there is no retirement Visa. So, as a foreigner, u can only stay for a maximum of 90 days, and then u have to leave the country. So when this couple in the video leave to exit the country, and then try to get back in the day after, it is NOT guaranteed that the Viet border officer and border police will let them enter again, or enter the country right away once more. If you sign a long-term rental lease on a house (for example 12 months), there is a strong possibility that that lease will only last 3 months, as you have to leave the country after 90 days, again. Imagine that, not being able to re-enter a house where you left all of your belongings, because you can't get back into the country as a foreigner............... the stuff of nightmares. The risk is there, it is definitely there, the major major risk. This couple in the video they are running without guarantees and are taking a massive risk. (This channel Relocated should mention these things, and these visa complexities and limitations for australians and all foreigners. And not just show the hype, the cute house and the clickbait stuff, or a lot of people will be taken for a ride).

I love Rosa's voice and accent too. As an American, I speak English as well, but Rosa's accent sounds much more sophisticated than the English you hear in the U.S. And even though Australia will always be home for her, her parents didn't really flee Cambodia <s>---> they fled Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge government, and I'm sure they missed Cambodia living so far away. 50 years later, Cambodia and Vietnam are very different, so I see her as returning to her ancestral roots in SE Asia. I'm glad she is happy, and I hope that her friend's observations helped to reinforce that she and her husband made a good decision. There is freedom when you are no longer worried about your finances or debt. There is freedom when you no longer need to work 50 hours a week just to keep your head above water. All of it translates into a better quality-of-life, and even improved physical health. All the best to Rosa from Minnesota in the U.S. -</s> Lee P.S. I also love her walking desk! Those are becoming more common in the U.S. as well.
