Biochemistry is where I see AI being a game-changer, if it can accurately simulate amino acid assembly and folding as polypeptides form and simulate any kind of catalyst activities. No human could possibly do this on their own, I thought of this back when I was a pre-med student back in the early 2000's, and it is finally going to become reality. <br><br>Back when I was studying this subject, the research was clear to me that people were hyper-focused on specific gene expressions without knowing what their broad interactions would do, just seemed very daunting for any mere human to focus on, unless their entire career would revolve around a single enzyme...

LLMs are not conscious, but their pattern-predicting capabilities, including patterns of attending to "thoughts" (from reinforcement training), really simulate it well. The complexity of the pattern families LLMs can detect and produce are so complex that no human can actually understand them completely. Perhaps with careful analysis, we could arrive at some understanding of aspects of the patterns, broadly speaking.

Plus there is a titanically large data set to throw at the advancing AI models we haven’t even tried to scale capture for yet. We need to start sequencing the complete genomes and proteomes of every living thing there is. As this proceeds AI can help make the process more efficient.

AI could be a sandboxed tool for this type research. Having AI plugged into the internet is a bad idea until we can figure out how to "parent" it.

More precise use of the term CRISPR<br><br><br>a programmable cutting tool:<br>1. A short guide RNA is designed to match a target DNA sequence.<br>2. Cas9 (or a related enzyme) binds that guide RNA and searches the genome.<br>3. When it finds a matching site next to a short PAM motif, it makes a double-strand cut.<br>4.
