Really can't agree with this. It's always good to jump on every opportunity possible because you never know which playlist curator might love your song (considering that you hyper-target playlist pitching by focusing on your genres). This is especially helpful if you don't have a lot of money to run ads. You gotta do your research, not all playlists have fake streams.

The problem with this video is you're not offering an alternative approach. I run ads, make Tiktoks/reels, network, and guess what also pitch to some playlists. What should I spend that time and money on instead? The budget I spent on that was like 30 dollars and in return I actually didn't get much streams, but since I did careful research, I got my song into the algorithm, since all the playlists had similar artists/songs. I got over 2k streams ONLY from algorithmic plays, which I got via the submission playlists. Sure, it's still dropping off, but I may have caught a few listeners here and there, since my followers and saves DID increase.
So what is your suggestion? I don't see any reason I shouldn't repeat this with my next release. This helped much more than all my other approaches, and your video seems to just refer to idiots who pat for bot playlists which obviously no one who thinks things through is gonna do.
Cheers.

I have had almost no success pitching to playlists like that, but I have had huge success just tracking people down on social media and asking for free.

Great video. I agree with most of what you said. However, for me getting on a playlist via Submithub wasn’t a total waste of time. Sure, listeners went up at first and after being on for a while, my song was removed. I expected the listeners to go down. But in doing so, I learned things: what my genre might be, what being on a playlist is like, what similar artist are like etc. I look at it as just a small piece of the marketing pie. Obviously, creating great songs and content are the best ways to grow. That’s my opinion anyway.
Thanks.

This is so true. Experienced it firsthand, and it completely destroyed my motivation. I’m literally still attempting to recover. 😞

Great video. I had a feeling that it wasn't worth the effort - the gain was probably minimal in comparison to focusing on writing more music, glad to hear it confirmed by you!

I've been spending thousands on a range of methods - finding the best use of money (at least for me) is paying for features/co-releases on Spotify. Keep the great vids coming!

So how does one who is just beginning, with almost no followers and no streams on their first song supposed to get going? If we’re not even allowed to pitch to editorial playlists, etc.? What is the best way to start?

Hello. Here's the quandary: You bring up salient points, but for me I'm not hearing an alternative approach.
My band is a baby band. We are considering a waterfall release. It's time to get our music out there. BUT.....
When we first released our first single (not at all knowing how to do it), it was like yelling in an empty hallway of your dad's office, on a Saturday when no one was working.
No one was there, no one was listening.
So, if we "shouldn't pitch to Spotify playlists", won't we just be releasing to no one all over again?
Appreciate the tutorials you're giving, and hope you get my question.

This is true ONLY if the playlists are botted. There are plenty of great, genuine niche personal playlists out there—just saying.
