  The conventional Gleaner did have some electric solinoid problems, still very successful. IH axial flow combines were very successfut and still respected years into the future because of their good quality.Mf were very popular in numbers. Loss of dealers really hurt them in N. America. Axial Flow IH and Deere quality and strong dealer support hurt them.

  When the N6 came out it was supposed to be a game changer, 141 modifications in the 1st year and it was better but not the best.

  The Allis-Chalmers Gleaners were very popular in Eastern Washington where we farmed in the 1980's. The M series were the main stay up there. We had 3 neighbors that ran the MH2's, MH3 and one down the road a way with an MH. The "H" stood for Hillside, equipped with a leveling system to navigate some of the steep hills in the Palouse Region. The M series looked just like the L but likely with different features. From what I recall, you could run really fast with them and the big farmers liked them for that. They were nicknamed "silver seeders" because they ran fast enough that they would end up kicking grain out the back. Had they slowed down a little and adjusted them right, they would be less apt to leave excess grain on the ground.

  The early Ls did have issues but from '75 on they were rock solid and a very good machine! The early N's destroyed Allis!

  AI BS - N series had Allis Chalmers Engines - the N series morphed into the R60 the R50-60-70 then the R52-55-62-72  Only the early R50 60 70 had Deutz.

  You can say what you want about all of the brands, but Big Green, John Deere, is the ONLY company that has survived on its own for well over a century. They still make combines in the USA. The rotary combines were late to the game, and if you are baling the straw you miss the old cylinder/walker machines. I'm glad CNH kept both the TR and Axial Flows as separate machines. No matter what color, it's the dealer support that makes the difference.
