  It was popular as a &quot;Made in the USA&quot; product. When they moved to China it no longer had brand loyalty.

  The story of Schwinn training Giant in Taiwan only to be replaced by them is heart-wrenching. It’s the story of so many American icons that lost their soul to outsourcing.

  When I was a kid in the 1960s, my grandfather saved up to buy me a brand‑new Schwinn with a banana seat and cool butterfly handlebars. It was the most beautiful green bike, and two of my buddies had the same Schwinn in blue and purple. We rode for miles all summer and taught ourselves to do wheelies, feeling like we owned the world. One day it was stolen at the local pool, and that loss stayed with me more than I realized — seeing this video brought back the good memories and reminded me how special those old Schwinns were.

  I bought a Schwinn 10-speed with lights and saddlebags front and back in high school in 1966 for $120.00 (equal to $1,190 in today&apos;s money). Dad complained I didn&apos;t need the &quot;Cadillac&quot; of bikes and I was just wasting my money, but that was one of the best values of any purchase in my 77 years!

  I still have my Schwinn Racer from 1958 stored away. It is still all original, with the exception of needing a replacement headlight. Even the tires are original. My Racer never spent a night outdoors, or sat out in bad weather, so is still in nice rideable shape. My Dad took me to the bike store and told me to pick out any bike I wanted. It cost $44. Dad had made me a deal. If I saved up enough money from cutting grass, he would pay half. It was one of his teachable moments for me on the value of money… Thanks Dad!

  In 1963 my father bought me a red Schwinn Typhoon. A few years later I bought myself a Continental. Now I have a Trek and a Raleigh. I don&apos;t do bike trips anymore (I&apos;m 76) but I do ride to the supermarket and local stores. The bicycle is the best vehicle humans ever invented!

  My fist bike was a Schwinn in 1960, but I later had a Huffy bike by the late 1960s.

  A lot of kids that used to get out and get into trouble on their bikes are glued to screens now. &nbsp;And their parents are relieved because they&apos;re too paranoid to let them play outside much anymore. But kids are getting into much worse trouble online.
