  I’ve never loved a scene more than when Jack was so mad about the rum being burned that he genuinely considered throwing away 10 years of revenge to cap Elizabeth on that beach

  Everyone raves about Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow - and he is great in the role - but I love Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa. He is brilliant in the role.

  Fun fact. So Jack Sparrow was actually written as a pretty serious (straightman) character. Johnny Depp gave him all the mannerisms and brought him to life as we see it. He even handpicked most of the items in his attire as well. That&apos;s part of the reason why he&apos;s so beloved in the character, he&apos;s just as responsible for creating him as he his acting as him

  Keira Knightly relates the story of Johnny Depp showing up on set in his costume. The script had nothing about Jack Sparrow having strange behavior or eccentric clothing. Johnny Depp had entirely created this characterization and worked with the costume department without telling anyone. He completely changed the tone of the film and is probably responsible for it being such a huge hit.

  You asked why Gibbs ended up a pirate after being in Norrington&apos;s ship at the beginning. <br>It was common practice at that time for European monarchies to practice &quot;impressment.&quot; They essentially kidnapped people, including children, and forced them into military service on a ship.<br>Many of the pirates at that time were formerly impressed into service or were former slaves, but were able to escape, or even just former sailors who had fallen on hard times. They had a lifetime of sailing and fighting skills, but refused to serve the monarchs who mistreated them. Instead, they used those skills to raid and steal from the colonies, trading vessels, and treasure ships.<br>So Gibbs was a former sailor for the crown of England (willingly? We&apos;re not sure) and left the service to become a pirate.

  The first 3 movies were perfect. My main issue with 4 and 5 was how the writers/director misunderstood Jack&apos;s character. 1-3 established him as incredibly smart who was at his best when facing tough odds. Someone who avoiding outright confrontation yet, with his back against the wall was great at it. 4 turned him into a circus gymnast with increasingly outrageous physical maneuvers to out-play opponents, though it did have moments of guile. 5 just turns him into a fumbling idiot that relied on luck and misfortune of others to gain the upper hand.<br>What all 5 of the movies did get right was the antagonists. Every one of them is a memorable character. Barbossa, Beckett, Jones, Blackbeard, and Salazar are all fantastic villains. Amazing intro scenes for all but Beckett too. Which was actually useful to portray him as the slimy git that he was.

  One of the best things of older movies is as little green screen as possible. Real ships, real locations, specifically built for the movie, real destruction. Great movie. Thanks for the reaction!

  There was an actual written and recognized Pirate Code or Articles of Agreement, they were well known across the 17th and 18th century. It wouldn&apos;t be farfetched to believe that a young noble woman in the Carribean would be somewhat familiar with the most common Maritime Bylaws of which Parlay is probably the most widely recognized one.
