Magik has OUTGROWN the X Men… and They Know It

  This has always been a huge problem with her, and if anything, it was even worse in her original New Mutants days. &nbsp;Having the character who was trained by Belasco and Storm in Limbo and then defeated Belasco and took over Limbo on the same team as a group of teenage trainees would leave no room for the rest of the team to do anything. &nbsp;So Claremont mostly killed Magik&apos;s potential by not actually allowing that character on the team and by creating the incredibly stupid plot point that her powers didn&apos;t work on Earth. &nbsp;This was impossible since the New Mutants only found out about her sorcery because she had cast spells on Earth before the plot point was introduced. &nbsp;It meant that she was never allowed to win fights and existed to be a constant victim of the Worf Effect. &nbsp;And it undermined her entire story as a supposed apocalypse maiden who could end all life on Earth if she ever lost control. &nbsp;Between that and Inferno cutting off her story unfinished instead of giving her the final battle with Belasco that Claremont had promised multiple times, she died without ever having any chance to do anything after her return from Limbo, get any character development, or even follow up on and resolve the plot threads that were set up in her origin. &nbsp;It was 5 years of wasted potential. &nbsp;Thankfully, her return was the story Inferno should have been since Marvel finally stopped blue-balling fans and after 23 years they finally gave her that long-promised but never-delivered confrontation with Belasco and his Elder Gods. &nbsp;Pretty much all of her character development, interesting stories, and feats start in 2007. &nbsp;As annoying as it is whenever she jobs just so Jean can show off nowadays, she&apos;s at least allowed to do things half of the time, as opposed to the 80s when it was close to 0% of the time. &nbsp;The entire 80s was a huge missed opportunity after how amazing her origin had been, failing to capitalize on any of the potential set up in that miniseries.<br><br>The way Age of Revelation is handling her is more disappointing than the way stories like Second Coming and even Fall of X sidelined her because the bad guy is Doug Ramsey. &nbsp;She has a unique relationship with Doug because they weren&apos;t just teammates. &nbsp;He was the innocent kid she wanted to be and she went out of her way to protect him, and this continued during Krakoa. &nbsp;Showing her reaction to Doug becoming evil should have been one of the highest priorities of any story where Doug is the villain, and by sidelining her and the other New Mutants, Marvel has shown that they will not do the one thing that would have made Age of Revelation interesting. &nbsp;After what they&apos;ve done with Magik and the rest of the New Mutants in AOR, they could have replaced Doug with literally anyone else and it would be exactly the same. &nbsp;It could have been Warpath, it could have been Boom Boom, it could have been Goldballs, and it would make no difference because none of the people who are close to Doug get to react to what he does in any meaningful way. &nbsp;It&apos;s like if DC had a story where Dick Grayson became a villain and they never bothered to show how Batman, any of the other Robins, or any of the old Teen Titans reacted.<br><br>One thing that constantly bugs me and other Magik fans is how after all this time, Illyana is still the only sibling from the Rasputin family who hasn&apos;t faced their ancestor Grigory Rasputin. &nbsp;How Marvel continues to fail to see how perfect of an antagonist he is for her is one of life&apos;s great mysteries. &nbsp;But apparently the only descendant who is not allowed to have anything to do with Grigory is the only one who is also a mystic like he was.

  You make a point she definitely has outgrown the X-Men. In fact there are a lot of characters who have outgrown the X-Men who need their own solo series

  She&apos;s got the most potential to become the next Spiderman level character imo.<br><br>A good writer just needs to tap into her history and write a good story.

  Much like how Dr.Doom being an only FF villain really limited him. Magik is limited by being in a sub team under the X men.

  This is what happens when you put a Hell Lord on a team. I think they should just raise the threat level of the villains they face and develop a team that is full of powerhouses facing the cosmic threats. <br><br>She should definitely be keeping her own ongoing along side team books.

  Magik being nerfed in a team setting isn&apos;t anything unique to her; that applies to most powerhouses in Marvel, shit, you can even make the same argument for Kid Omega &amp; Juggernaut, who are currently on the same team as her.

  With her name, powers and origin it doesn&apos;t make much sense to me for her to ever be an X-Men character. She needs to be in the magical side of Marvel. I mean her name is Magik.

  One extremely important thing I feel like should be brought up involving how she&apos;s being handled in recent years, is who&apos;s been in charge of the X-Men since the end of the Krakoan age. Tom Breevefort has gone on record for absolutely DESPISING Illyana, for some reason. Until he isn’t the head of the X-Office anymore, Magik and fans of her might be cooked.

  I had loved Magik since I was a teen simply because her powers and skills literally covered everything like what an overpowered OC dreamt up by such a teen would be like. She&apos;s a badass fighter with a big sword that&apos;s also magic because it&apos;&apos;s literally her soul, oh and she can also do magic too and she&apos;s strong enough to hold the title of Sorcerer Supreme of Limbo, oh but she&apos;s also agile because not only is she a dexterous fighter but she also can make use of portals because she&apos;s also a mutant, not only can she teleport around in short bursts but she can teleport whole squads with her along far distances too adding a layer of utility. &nbsp;Lastly she&apos;s also grappling with the demon within her and it can literally be a Devil Trigger ult. Oh also she&apos;s hot as fuck. Magik is every teen&apos;s edgy OC made reality and I love it.
