  Do Not label your boxes with the room the stuff goes in or the contents of the box. It gives the people who work for the moving company which boxes contain what they could steal. INSTEAD: &nbsp;Label the boxes ONLY with a number on them. But on a SEPARATE piece of paper, next to the number of the box, list the contents of that box. &nbsp;1. &nbsp;If you are looking for a specific item you know which box it is in. &nbsp;2. &nbsp;You can check off the box numbers as they come off the truck and you will know right away if one is missing and what the contents were should you have to file a claim.

  My husband was diagnosed with cancer three years ago. &nbsp;After chemo and radiation and 6 spine surgeries, etc, etc… he’s finally regained some strength and mobility back. &nbsp;We’re now doing Swedish death cleaning so we don’t leave all of our junk for our kids to have to pack up and toss. &nbsp;They are all out of state, I don’t want our passing to be a hassle for them at all, so we’re trimming all the unnecessary and unwanted stuff out of all of our lives. &nbsp;It’s amazing how liberating this process has been! The peace we have is priceless!

  We started decluttering in August last year and are moving this July. It took 11 months, because we are older, and it was exhausting and stressful. &nbsp;Start WAY before you think you need to start!

  My house is only 690 ft.². I don’t have to downsize :-) When I first bought it I thought it was a starter home that I would eventually get a bigger house. Thank God I got that out of my system. I love my little house.

  I am “Downsizing” from a small house (1200 sq ft) on a large lot, to a larger house (1400 sq ft) on a smaller lot with NO Landscaping required! I hate landscape maintenance, give me the desert and hardscaping! I’m getting rid of a lot of furniture too. At this point I just really want simplicity and low maintenance.

  I’m not downsizing. &nbsp;I would have to pay much more for an single story house but I have been cleaning and purging as if I were selling so my kids aren’t stuck with getting rid of so many things they don’t want and making it so much easier when cleaning my home. &nbsp;When my mother passed away, she lived with me 16 years I had soooo many Christmas decorations in the attic. &nbsp;I had my kids and brother go through the pieces I wasn’t keeping and her personal items that didn’t mean anything to me. The rest of my things that I wanted to keep I sold the things that would bring more than $50.00 as I felt it wasn’t worth my time dealing with people and scammers, gave away things I would take through a neighborhood site and threw the rest away. &nbsp;I love my house again and it will be easier for my family when I’m gone or need to move.

  Last time we moved was 33 years ago. At this point, id rather burn my stuff than pack it up, move it, then find a spot in my next residence. I’m just not sentimental

  I have a very good idea about how to label your boxes when you move. I bought a quantity of various stickers. My bedroom boxes had a blue sticker on it, kitchen had a yellow sticker, etc. etc. You could post the chart right by the front door as the movers come in the door or you could stand by the door and scan the boxes for the stickers. It’s a lot easier to have stickers than writing on boxes. If you’re nervous about the stickers falling off the boxes, put a little clear packing tape over them. It’s a great idea for privacy.

  We downsized, and it was the best thing! We donated stuff not taking. Didn&apos;t even think twice about missing it. And we haven&apos;t. We get too wrapped up in stuff!<br>The newer home is in a nicer neighborhood, and more importantly, 8 months after moving in, I got cancer. 3 months after that, another cancer was found after x-rays of the first.<br>I was SO glad to be in a smaller home!!! Still am!! And cancer free!<br>Remember, it&apos;s just stuff!

  Beware of moving to be near your kids or grandkids, if you don&apos;t also have a social structure there to support you. Your kids have their own lives to live, the young grandkids start school, and if you don&apos;t know anyone in town, it&apos;s going to get lonely awfully fast.
