When I was 13yrs old I ran away from home. Stayed a quarter mile away, 7 weeks. Never found. Stayed low, stayed quiet. My dog visited me every 3 days. I think my parents knew where I was. Great adventure.😊

Sherwood Forest is 1/20th the size these days compared to medieval times.

"Stay Hidden". Great advice. <br>In the USA, there's a program called Outward Bound that would teach woodcraft and survival skills. The 'test' was 3 days alone to use the skills you learned.

They mainly survived because they had something the modern day prepper and hiker didn't have, they had a community. Historians put the average number of outlaws who lived in each little outlaw community including women and children between 50 and 150 people and everyone had their specific duties. they have found evidence of manmade clearings in a dense tree line where the people looking for sheriffs troops would walk within a couple meters of and never even know anyone was there.

When I was taught survival skills in the British forces, early 70s, we were taught how to survive without equipment as it was a part of our "escape and evasion" skill set. You have to bear in mind this included "neutralizing" the enemy and gaining their kit. For that reason, I was told, "knowledge is by far the lightest kit you can possess, yet it may way heavy on your mind".

What's left to Sherwood Forest is too small to get lost in.

I worked at a summer camp. Each session we had a monster hunt. A staff member would wear a green poncho and a hat with antlers. They would hide in the woods and we would have to search for him. Some guys liked going deep into the woods. When it was my turn, I was not planning to work that hard. I told them that I would be behind a bush near the main trail. I laid down behind a bush two steps from the trail. It was a warm day and I fell asleep. A few hours later I heard voices. on the other side of the bush were two staff. The event was over and they were looking for me. I scared them when I greeted them. The lesson here is that with a minimum of effort, I eluded a search party and I told them where I was going to be! Think how effectice experience woodsman would be.

He survived because he spent 30 years in the same forest. Hikers that get lost are in a new forest.

A modern version of the kings forest is the wealthy buying all the land surrounding public land in hopes of keeping regular folks from accessing and using the public land.

When I was 10 I ran away from care ,at age only 10 again I pinched a tent out of a Woolworth window ,yes I had a tent but the police were looking everywhere ,I was in a farmers field with tent covered by,grass and straw god knows how I survived, considering it was a very hot summer in the 70 s ,I obviously had to shoplift to eat and took milk ,off doorsteps it all sounds bad but seeing as my parents ,were alcoholics I lived a life wild and free I knew nothing else,so when social workers tried to keep me in children's homes,I couldn't take it kept running away eventually they did, stop me in my tracks but that's another story .
