in Pashto language (an Eastern Iranian language of Afghanistan) one of the dialects use the word "Merstarga" for sun. Which literally translates to 'Eye of Mithra'

To me as a biologist the statue carries a very clear common-sense taxonomy. The dog: all animals that walk (mammals, birds). The snake: all animals that slither (reptiles, fish). The scorpion: all animals that crawl (insects, crustaceans). The wheat: everything that grows (all plants and vegetation). Basically all things that carry life, owe their existence to the slaying of the bull.

The hat is proof that Mithras was a smurf.

Hi Andrew, I’m 15 years old and I have absolutely been loving your videos on ancient religion for so long now and I have been a fan of the channel, and I aspire to be a scholar in ancient religion like yourself. Your videos have inspired me so much, in fact, that I’ve written my own article on ancient Roman religion and the cult of Mithras for my school’s History Society, and it has been received very well by my teachers and peers. So much so it’s being entered in a competition in September this year by my Head of History :) Keep doing what you’re doing, I very much appreciate your videos and I learn so much from them. ❤

I was curious how Hermes got mixed in with Helios, Apollo, and Mithras, since he's very clearly not a sun god. Then I remembered that, on the day he was born, he stole a herd of cattle that belonged to Apollo. So there's a sun connection there. I wonder if Mithras picked up that cattle thief bit from Hermes?

The Romans being fascinated by religions to their east reminds me a lot of an American being fascinated by anime or changing their personality when they study abroad in France. I feel like there’s a frequent very human experience of yearning for the world outside, and one’s own cultural lens ends up flattening that foreign culture into a few smaller more digestible elements.

4:03 in Indonesian, a language and culture influenced by the Vedic religion, “mitra” is a business partnership, especially a B2B partnership. For example, an e-commerce website would have a “mitra” with a payment gateway. In other words, it’s a vendor, supplier or contractor.

My homecity of Mainz had a Mithraum, but the city didn't take care of a proper survey. And most of the excavations were made by "enthusiasts" that took their findings back home.

The depictions of the Tauroctony are remarkably consistent.
