I used to work for a large landscaping company and I was told that edging that sticks out of the ground is tacky. The top edge should be sitting on the ground if it’s decorative. Don’t let them show at all if they aren’t . They only did high dollar commercial jobs.

I Landscaped with low maintenance in mind. Perennials only to not buy plants yearly except my parsley for the Butterfly 🦋. When I did my retaining walls I used quarry rocks to stop digging animals although I do love them. I put steal netting down then landscape paper then the rocks. No weeds through . Going on 6 years . I created a separate Butterfly/Bee garden with 2 different colored mulched. One for the path & other for the stations of wildflowers. I also created a whimsical Wildlife corner with all faux trees n plants to stay nice all year. It is set up to protect the critters from Hawks. It could be considered a tad cheesy but it is pretty and suits it's purpose.

I put a floating solar fountain in and took out the solar fountain part of the structure the next year. The water evaporated in about one day.
