i like to believe that ryoji and makoto are sitting together just talking. not fighting not being in silence but talking about the world. that they are watching the fools journey happen with other persona users

Persona 3's ending is geniunely the most powerful scene I've ever known in fiction. I so rarely cry at video games, movies, etc - for the most part, I just don't. And yet I've cried so many times at P3's ending. Even hearing that music has me pavloved to expect I'm about to start crying.

Thing is, it's so easy to fall into the trap of taking life for granted in the seeming mundanity of the day to day. Even if you are lucky enough to know you are loved and have purpose, it's all too easy to forget that - and many of us don't even know it.

Yet, when we are reminded of those facts, that's when life feels the most fulfilling.

To have death come for Makoto, right when he is surrounded by the depths of his love with Aigis, by the bonds with his de facto family, by the beauty of what he has accomplished...it creates such a sense of fullfilment, such an appreciation for the value of life, right before it's ripped away. Adding the game has just spent over 60hrs reinforcing our identification with Makoto is a reminder this fate awaits us as well.

Hashino said in an interview he went through a near death experience with his wife at his side and his friends and family coming to say goodbye. That this scene comes from a geniune place makes it all the more meaningful.

It's wild. I first played P3 as a nihilistic teenager back in 2012. Today, over a decade later, it's still my favorite game - and still driving me to tears over and over and over.

I hate that I didn't realise he died at first.. It felt like such a happy ending, I thought he died when sacrifising himself then everything oddly returned to normal. Had to replay it the next day and then the feelings really hit. One of the best stories I've experienced for sure

Aigis' quote about what it means to live is one of the most poignant, beautifully haunting set of words I've ever heard and I'll carry them with me until I die: "Follow your heart. Fight for what you can change; and accept the things you can't." There were many dialog lines and moments/scenes that stuck with me from this game; but this takes the cake. Genuinely, her words echo in my heart and mind everyday and they have pushed me to do things I might otherwise wouldn't have because I was too scared for whatever reason, making excuse after excuse to justify inaction. Her and the SEES crew truly taught me to Live With Determination.

I couldn’t cry when the credits were there in the original p3 fes because my parents were in the room and I thought men can’t cry now when I finished reload I bawled for a good hour or so I bawled when Chidori died I wept when Shinji died even though it was something I already experienced thanks man you made a banger and you’ve earned a sub

I think what makes it hit even harder is that for a moment you think you survived sealing Nyx and then over the course of the epilogue it begins to set in that you're just the last remnant of your soul holding on by a thread so you can fulfil the promise you made.

I never played the original P3/FES/Portable but I knew Makoto’s fate and his infamous alias as “Door-kun”

I thought the ending would have alluded more to the image of him as the seal on the door. Something abrupt with some flashes of the friends grieving, credits roll, game ends as episode Aigis would continue the epilogue, etc. I had no idea this ending was going to be the ending we got.

I was caught off guard. Moreso, I was slowly being overcome by an intense sadness as you have your final interactions with every maxed bond. Especially how some of them even pointed out just how tired Makoto looked.

It felt like a kind of purgatory before reaching nirvana. That’s almost what I took it for until I realized the last technique costing all your HP, the apparent fatigue, how he literally stayed alive for a WHOLE month to keep their promise about meeting on the rooftop, Aigis’ whole monologue about find her TRUE purpose, only for it to be unknowingly ripped away in that same frame of time…

This whole interpretation to die, surrounded by your loved ones, was so unique and wonderfully done.

As someone that began this series with P5, I get it now why the story is praised so much. This ending will forever stick with me

I decided to watch this video after I finished playing the game. When i reached the ending I didnt initially cry but I felt it in my soul and I understood the meaning of it all and I really appreciated how all of it thematically linked. And then I went downstairs and it all hit me. I thought about the ways in which it reflected in my own life and now over an hour later I keep breaking out onto tears when I think about it. I'm so glad I put my time into this game and I cant wait to see what else the persona series has.
