Funny how I just read the relevant chapter (first) in AoE to appreciate this video. Thank you!

That was so informative. I am just recently ready for a lesson like that, and much needed. 😮

A high permeability ferrite core of 13 mm OD and about 6 mm height is quite capable of working well up to 15-20 amperes. I've used them in many SMPS designs.

You really know about measurements.👌👍

2:30 The main reason for the resistor is not the phase shift. You simply need it for current to voltage conversion. Current on secondary side has to flow somehow and the only controlled path is via a resistor.

Really cool - might be nice to add an SMA socket to the board so you use a coax cable to the scope.

Why when I pass a wire through my current probe (a wire between L and the diode in a boost converter), do I get the same shape as if I were measuring the voltage at the switch node, but smaller (I dont get a triangular shape)?
@Carinat61 · 6 months ago
I didn't understand why not use a simple resistor instead of a capacitor or a boost converter for calibration.

How about adding a hall effect device to measure DC current in additiion to the ferrite core for AC current?
@danhellgren5671 · 2 years ago
You said that the likely source of error when finding a calibration constant could be the capacitor.
But why not use a resistor?

What are the dimensions of the iron powder core that you use for your own current probe?
