  My brother had a Vega. &nbsp;Fist thing we did was swap in a Datsun radiator.

  We had not one but two serial Vegas. First that fastback, then a Kammback. In fairness, we lived in the sticks and it was Ma&apos;s car and she was quite short. The Vega was the only thing built in America that met her requirements of not trying to strangle her with a shoulder belt that had to accommodate a 6&apos; tall man and her 5&apos;2&quot; frame (bearing in mind that cars of the day rarely had any vertical adjustment for the driver&apos;s seat)

  In 1973 my 18 year old brother was getting a brand new car, paid for by my uncle, because he was the baby. &nbsp;I always bought my own cars since age 18 and &nbsp;did not get a brand new car until I was 27 working full time. &nbsp;Since I knew cars from repairing my own and parents cars, I helped him look at a variety of cars. &nbsp; &nbsp;One of the cars we looked at was the Vega because of price, and we were a Chevrolet family. &nbsp;The salesman, selling Chevrolets since 1931 at the SAME DEALERSHIP, &nbsp;we always bought from, REFUSED to sell us, or anyone else a Vega! &nbsp;He knew, and told us, it was a piece of junk! &nbsp;Since he had risen to Vice-President of the dealership, he literally sold more cars at the largest Chevrolet dealership in Massachusetts, than ALL the other salesmen combined. &nbsp;The President/owner was the 1925 dealership&apos;s founder&apos;s son who was never there, and a good thing too, as he rubbed everyone the wrong way. &nbsp;He could not sell winter coats at the North Pole, &nbsp;AND HE KNEW IT!

  My brother bought one new in 1974. Ran great with great mpg. Only problem with it was rust. Really lousy steel made American car bodies look great in comparison. Brother traded when it was 7 years old for a base Plymouth Reliant K-car. He was married and had kids by then and needed a larger car anyway. Same problem as my dad&apos;s 72 Corona. The tops of the front fenders were gone as was the entire rockers on both sides by 1980. There was no place to jack the car from.

  Because the U.S. was too hard on Japan, its ally, China has now become a major automotive power.<br>The same goes for semiconductors.<br>Japan has been left with nothing.

  The Japanese defeated Detroit by making a car 🚗 that doesn&apos;t drink petrol ⛽ like a salary man on Friday nights and didn&apos;t fall apart like a cheap suit.

  First foreign car I bought was a 1990 Mazda 626 and there were two models, the DX and the LX. The DX was the basic model. The LX had more options. The only options on the LX was a moon roof. Easy to configure and buy. American cars had too many options that you could only get in certain configs. Way too complicated. Next vehicle we bought was a 1992 Grand Voyager.
