I've never had trouble getting interviews. I even have a history of getting down to the last round of interviews and not being chosen. Today, I was offered a job which I considered a bit of a stretch for me and my background. The one main thing I did differently is change how I answer this one question according to this advice. Not only was I chosen, but I was chosen after round 2 of what was supposed to be a 3-round process! This woman is amazing! Thank you, Farah!

I've been struggling to get the response to this common question just right, but this formula will fix that. I have two phone screens / interviews on Friday 6/16, and I'll use this strategy. Thanks for these crystal-clear insights!

I followed your recommendation on a first interview with HR last Monday. From the answer I learned exactly what's important to the company. I gave a focused answer (without talking 15 minutes about my past experience like I did before) and got invited to a second interview in two days. 🎉

Thank you so much !!

Here is how i answered this question for a medical sales role:

I am a healthcare clinician with over 20 years of experience, a successful pharmaceutical sales rep with 5 years of experience, and happen to be a happily married man of 15 years with 2 beautiful sons. The one thing that those traits and this role I am applying for have in common is active listening skills. As a clinician, I have to clearly understand what problems my patients are having so that i am able to conduct the proper diagnostic tests to accurately treat the problem. As a sales rep, I have to understand the physicians' and office managers' concerns to properly position my product to best solve their needs. And as a husband, it is extremely important for me to listen to my wife to keep her happy and to avoid sleeping on the couch.

I was told that that was one of the best "tell me about yourself" statements they have ever heard, and it addressed one of the most important roles of a medical sales rep, which is actively listening (one of that companies core competencies listed on their website)

I also wanted to show that I can be fun and have a sense of humor

“Why should we hire you?” counter, “Why did your last employee leave?” 🤔

This is what I hate. This. I can't sell myself.

I kind of wish your scenarios would have been all stitched together at the end of the video. It went from hair salon to marketing. It's hard for me to understand how the structure of the flow is.

The power of silence, not talking, waiting... is immense and documented across the spectrum from Chris Voss in Never Split The Difference to the Wolf of Wall Street. It is an art. Remember being interviewed will make you nervous, and nervous people tend to talk a lot, so make a script of short answers to common questions and rehearse them. Keep it short and sweet.
Love your videos, thank you for your work 👍

Anyone who tells a panel of senior VPs "due to our limited time , what would you like to learn most" is not getting the job, I PROMISE you.

Recruiter: “Make a great impression.”
Candidate: “Is this an acting role? If so I want to be the main protagonist.”
