  i really struggled with the clumsy human trafficking subplot, its just felt half baked and kind of hurtful to write such a serious and relevant topic in such a lazy way

  Making the movie's background plot about the mass assault and enslavement of child "brides" and them not having pretty much any speaking lines/baring on the plot was also a... Choice in 2026.

  Seems like they went in thinking ‘no 1 priority is showing how Supergirl is different than superman, answer, she swears drinks and kills’

  Everything they altered in the "adaptation" missed the point more and more. Imagine getting such a deep, emotional story to adapt, and then stripping it of ALL the themes about oppression and women's grief being silenced, and instead turning it into sex trafficking movie that actually just centers the male sex traffickers instead of the main characters' stories. Such a loss.

  I knew the movie was doomed to fail when the director practically bragged about never reading the comic the movie title is based on.

  I hated the Madonna/Whore vibes I was getting between Ruthie getting revenge vs the child brides getting revenge.<br>It&apos;s not ok for Ruthie to get revenge/justice by killing the man who murdered her family, because it would corrupt her and she would no longer be &quot;pure&quot;.<br>But it&apos;s ok for the child brides (who are around the same age as Ruthie) to get revenge on their captures because firstly it&apos;s &quot;helping&quot; Supergirl and also it implied these girls have already been sexually abused. So they are no longer pure and getting revenge won&apos;t corrupt them.<br>Kara only showed concern for Ruthie&apos;s emotional/mental health, not the other girls.<br>We don&apos;t hear or see them at the end of the movie. Or what happened to any of them 😢

  I think part of the problem with Empowered Women characters is that our culture is obsessed with violence. The default mode of thinking seems to be that to be “empowered” is to able to apply violence and not suffer any consequences, because we view violence and the capacity to inflict it on people to get what we want as the ultimate form of wish fulfillment.

  I still can’t get over how the movie (accurately) found it not appropriate to kill the dog but did find it appropriate (wrongly) to kill the entire black family including the child for some reason.

  My enjoyment of the movie ended at the scene where Ruthye was about to kill Kreem-sicle before he could kill a black girl he was gonna traffick but Kara grabs Ruthye, allowing him to continue to chase after the girl. When he finally catches up to her, he kills her and her parents. Ruthye and Kara have an argument right next to their dead bodies but not about their deaths but about Ruthye almost killing Kreem de la Creme.

  Your comment about the wives from Fury Road was exactly what pissed me off about this film so much. I was absolutely floored that the screenplay used sexual violence as nothing more than set dressing to raise the stakes for our leads. All this handwringing about saving Ruthye&apos;s inocence while other girls her age are getting carted away to be &quot;brides&quot; with nothing more than a few quips and scenes where they are brutalized for shock. Where was Supergirls concern for the girls who shot a harpoon through her attackers chest? Just a nod of aproval only &nbsp;immediately to yap to Ruthye why what those girls did was wrong and shed be ruined for it? Im glad someone had the common sense to cut the scene where Krem threatens to assault Rutheye after it tested poorly. Jfc! Like did Joss Whedon ghost write this shit?

  I really wish they kept the montage of Kara and Ruthye going around helping people and getting information on Krem. It’s only a few scenes but it does a lot to show the compassionate side of Kara. The “Thank you, neighbor” scene is such a great moment and I think having those scenes would’ve added a lot to the film

  milly alcock is 2 for 2 in bringing a standout performance to a lack luster adaptation of a character. i do have to imagine she was envisioned as to foil for superman, but it&apos;s somewhat sad that they couldn&apos;t imagine a punk character who isn&apos;t capable of incredibly lengths of kindness while still retaining her identity separate from her cousin. the movie is very weak compared to the comic which has stronger messaging and a confidence sense of self, but even without it, the movie doesn&apos;t have actual legs to stand on in terms of framing seeking revenge as something that inherently makes you worse. it&apos;s so weird how fumbled it was.
