  My late uncle was a Guadalcanal Marine E-8, who after the war, found GEN Marshall standing in the lobby of the Cloister, a resort on Sea Island, Georgia, waiting for his wife. &nbsp;When Uncle Wendell approached and introduced himself, GEN Marshall spend the next 10 minutes talking with him about my uncle&apos;s experiences in the Pacific. My uncle spoke of the General with something approaching awe, and I never tired of hearing him describe that meeting...especially since the last time I heard it, I was a retired Army officer, and was only then beginning to appreciate what George Marshall had done for the country. &nbsp;He was the distillation of the Greatest Generation.<br><br>We so sorely need such leadership today.

  75 years old from Pataskala, Ohio. Sent three of our children to Marines (the boy) and two to the Air Force. All came back. Praise be to God.

  This a great assessment of how the world changed for the US Army when George Marshall took the initiative to create the senior leadership that would win WWII. He later would become Secretary of State and create the policies that began the rebuilding of Europe: the Marshall Plan. A man who should be better remembered.

  Mike, 66, Lubbock, Texas. Thank you for this tribute to George Marshall. As a historian and political scientist, U. S. Marine and National Guard infantryman, I fully appreciate how General Marshalls unique insights shaped the successful post World War II world. Would that we should be blessed with such wisdom and leadership again!

  Yes, I agree that George C. Marshall deserves so much more than we can ever offer him or his family. I just hope, WE need to hope that he is remembered, not as a tribute to him, but as an example for us all to follow. Enthusiasm, selfless initiative, determination AND the careful spontaneity that the situation requires! This is a lesson to ME as a teacher!

  85 years old born the summer before Pearl Harbor. I still read and listen to stories of World War II. My uncle had a book of 100 short combat stories from World War II. I read it during my 10th and 11th year, I enjoyed it profoundly. I would love to have a copy of that book again. Lost in our many moves as my father followed his construction trade. Love the stories.!

  George C. Marshall was born in Uniontown PA. Fayette Co. Route 40/119 bypass was named after him in that area. Along with Dec. 15th being a day in his honor every year. While many has forgotten him. His hometown never will.
