  Teachers get fired for being disciplinarians. In the U.S., teachers are not allowed to assign consequences or discipline. The inmates literally run the asylum.

  I gave my kids a phone in their teens 14, or 15 but took the phone away from them EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. I did not fall for the &quot;alarm clock&quot; excuse. Momma is the alarm! They are 25 and 29 yrs old now and do not hate their country!

  The difference between being raised in the 1970’s and today is if I was horsing around, it was nothing for a neighbor to tune me up. Then tell my mom who’d tune me up again.

  I raised three children. Homework became a nightly battle. I wanted to throw my hands up. So, I told my children that if they don&apos;t want to do their homework, they don&apos;t have to. Their faces lit up like Christmas morning. I went on to say that they will have to explain to their teachers why they didn&apos;t do their homework. I wasn&apos;t going to explain, and I wasn&apos;t going to write a note. Homework was no longer a battle. I gave them agency, and a lesson on taking responsibility.

  Education isn&apos;t something that you farm out to schools. It requires intentional words and actions through out the day.

  Currently, in most US schools, if a child misbehaves and is sent out he or she will receive tons of attention, candy and catering. In forty three years of teaching I saw this tendency increasing, and more and more we were told that the most important thing was that the children are having fun in the classroom. &nbsp;I had taught in a school at the second and third grade level before being moved to middle school literature, because the students were not doing well on entrance exams for high school. &nbsp;In my lower grade classrooms, students understood the rules and the consequences for not following them. &nbsp;We did plenty of hands on, noisy activities but they knew that there were other times when they must work quietly, listen and follow directions. &nbsp;In my first week of teaching middle school I established the rules and expectations, which was easier because most of the children had been with me in second and third grade. &nbsp;The principal and vice principal came into the classroom and asked, &quot;What did you do to them?&quot; &nbsp;I thought it a strange question until I walked through the middle school halls during my planning period. &nbsp;Most classrooms were noisy and chaotic. &nbsp;Class changes in the hall were madness, but the administration insisted that middle school children were incapable of walking quietly in the hallway. &nbsp;As time when by, I had children I had not taught, and it was much more difficult to maintain order, but I did maintain it. &nbsp;I was very glad to reach retirement. &nbsp;We were not insisting on the behavior children needed to succeed in school and in life. &nbsp;I was weary of being the voice crying in the wilderness.

  An avenue they did not travel regarding removing kids: Administrators are trying to avoid litigation in many disciplinary situations. So many laws, rules, and regualtations exist that inhibit their ability to remove kids.

  Multiple boys standing on desks yelling at the librarian last week when I visited the wealthy/ multiracial suburban hs. The librarian was in tears. Nothing happened. The bell rang and classes changed.
