I kept a raccoon that had been harmed by people who catch them in a trap & kill them for food (disgusting). She either chewed off her paws to get out of the trap or the trap chopped them off, i don't know which but, i let her stay around the house & let her stay outside because she was still a wild animal but, i started feeding her since her paws were gone & she stayed, had 2 litters & then once she got real old she walked off into the woods & i never saw her again which i still miss her today !! I called her Hermione & she was like one of my children & i loved her as such !! She got to live wild & free of harm, thats what matters, it is true there are some who are born with rabbies & can give it to humans but, the Vet said not all have rabbies !! She was a special girl to me & i miss her !!!

I came across them while camping in Florida. Clever, clean, gentle little creatures. They are really smart little guys!

If you decide to have a pet raccoon, they can get the same rabies vaccine as ferrets, adjusted for bodyweight.<br>Edit: the stay more docile if they are fixed.

My cats are tired of them washing their cat food in their water bowl.

There were some Raccoons at a wildlife and falconry centre my family visited once. They were such curious critters, very friendly. The sign said not to put your fingers into their enclosure, so we didn&apos;t, but when they put their hands through the mesh and tried to pull us closer for inspection we could not resist. They got away with three oat biscuits and a melon chunk from our snack packs, and they also tried to get my Sister&apos;s rings. Amazingly friendly little bandits.

This video captures those playful raccoon antics perfectly; the way they fumble and tumble around is just the kind of delightful chaos that brightens your day.

No raccoons where I live, surprised to see that they can become pets.
