  The B-52, U2, and CH-47 designs are much older than the F-15 and we still use those today.  Hell, we still use the M2 .50 cal machine gun and that came into service in 1921.

  Imagine if they actually made a commercial jet that flew like an F‑15. You’d have people boarding with Starbucks in one hand, next thing you know — 9 Gs, full afterburner! Half the plane blacks out, the rest are screaming like they’re on a roller coaster built by Satan himself. Pilot’s like ‘welcome to flight 247, please keep your consciousness secured at all times.’ 😂

  that jet that lost its wing "Baz 957" (the planes tail number) happened in 1983 and was back up in the air 8 weeks later crazy part is it still is flying today.

  The F15 was the US response to the Soviet MIG25 Foxbat, whose technical specs when it debuted caused a lot of consternation in the West.  It was extremely fast and took the altitude record (which it still holds) and its sheer size made western militaries sweat as it was theorized to be able to hold a LOT of weapons.  So the development of the F15 was put on the fast track.  However in the mid-70's, a Soviet defector flew one to Japan where the US military was able to take it apart and inspect it.  Turns out that the huge size of the MIG25 was due to the amount of fuel it needed in order to get the jet to the advertised speed, which it could not sustain for a long time.  So a much smaller weapons load than feared.  This was because rather than being made entirely from Titanium (much lighter than steel), which the Soviets had a lot of deposits of (compared to the US which has practically none), it was made from heavier steel.  So the West was able to breathe a sigh of relief.  But as development of the F15 was well under way, they continued it's development and is now considered one of the most successful designs ever built while the Foxbat is considered a disappointment.
