My mother has this way of thinking. It is absolutely exhausting. Only thing I can do is minimize interaction and never give an inch because she'll take a mile in terms of her attempt to control me.

Great podcast, OCPD has to have the greatest gap between the DSM and Psychologists understanding vs lived experience.

This was so informative and bravo for the work you’ve done. My guess is my husband has OCPD. So any insights are helpful and the anger towards people not doing things “the proper way” is very relatable. I’ve been dealing with it for 36 years now.

It's really helpful to hear from someone else with the same disorder as me so I can look at it from the outside. It's barely been over six months since I was diagnosed so I've had a lot to think about when it comes to how this disorder has been influencing my life and relationships

Excellent interview. I appreciate Darryl's openness. I found these resources helpful: Too Perfect (1992) by Allan Mallinger, a psychiatrist who specialized in individual and group therapy for people with OCPD. The Healthy Compulsive (2020) by Gary Trosclair, a therapist who specializes in OCPD. I love Trosclair's first book too, I’m Working On It In Therapy: How To Get The Most Out of Psychotherapy (2015). The OCPD subReddit has a lot of resources from OCPD specialists.

This is really interesting and really helpful. My psychiatrist recently suggested I may have ocpd and I’ve found a lot of information online praises or turns people with ocpd into villains, which really isn’t helpful. These real life examples helped make much more sense than the clinical definitions or long psychiatric descriptions that make people sound like snobby penny pinchers. A lot of the time I realize that my reactions feel so much bigger than other peoples reactions to similar events so I tend to bottle them up and try to do everything myself like was mentioned in the story. Hearing your stories and reactions really helped give me a jumping off point to talk to my therapist and partner about the potential of having this disorder. Thank you!

Watching from Australia. My ex husband has OCPD. He was a nightmare - extremely controlling, very rigid, VERY mean with money (yes Scrooge describes him to a T) , lists, rules, never leisure time, hoarder, work perfectionism...very disliked by his colleagues. We lived in a ski resort, he couldn't go skiing for fun and enjoyment. He was a good skier, but he would read and study techniques, so ski time was about him perfecting his technique etc. He wasn't a liked man, black/white thinking, the rules were the rules, never any leniency, lists. Was cruel to my son, and made our lives hell. I ended with PTSD. Yes, the rules were important, but secretly despised them, and he used to steal stationery from work etc. So rules were wavy to him. thanks for this interview...but I am very triggered!
