The trouble with AI documentaries is that they need a human editor to cut redundant info, because they always repeat the same information which makes what should be a 50 minute presentation into an almost two hour one ... like this one.

"Any observer can only observe the observable conditions which allow the observer to observe..." Can't argue with that

The irony of this video is that so much of its assumptions are predicated upon how Life came about on Earth, with little conjecture as to how Life may arise under different conditions. I think the better way to consider this is not how rare Life is, but how hard it will be to RECOGNIZE other forms of Life.

Don't worry about the Voyager record. I read somewhere that the pulsar coordinates engraved on it are in error, but if not, a Klingon Bird of Prey will (eventually) use it for target practice.
BTW, while true that omnidirectional broadcasts are inefficient, intentional point-2-point (P2P) exists You have to be in line of sight to intercept a P2P signal. Secondly, it may not be addressed to us, so unless you're Alice to Bob The Alien's message, the encryption keys should elude reading by US. The problem is that WE are between Alice and Bob, so the odds of having hostile neighbors may have DOUBLED.

I'm getting more and more impressed by the fact that anything exists, existing itself is completely improbable, in fact, it's magic.

Modification on the level being used here to judge civilizations don't last is really, really hard.

It's really hard to differentiate such civilizations from background radiation. Beyond 100 light years, it can't be done.

G-type stars are the ones that are stable in luminance for long enough and won't strip a planet's atmosphere in the first billion years or be so small as to lead to tidal locking of any planets in the Goldilocks Zone. G-type stars are rare, about 3 percent.

The Boring Billion (geologically) was important stability for eukaryotes to evolve their organelles in symbiosis with mitochondria.

Or maybe we just don't understand our universe well enough to estimate that kind of thing

Could it be that radio signals get weaker by the ratio of 4 x the distance from the source (r) squared. So unless someone is directing a beam directly at us (like the Voyager crafts), the signals just die out in space.

After having a small pond where I kept Koi, I noticed how the Koi communicated with each other. A twist of a fin, a brush against another's body. We are naive to think we are the only species able to communicate.
