The Dolly Parton COVID Vaccine Link

Why are millions of people furious about Dolly Parton's involvement with the COVID vaccine? And why does almost nobody know the real story behind it? My two tribute videos about Dolly's life, legacy, and caregiving story have gotten more than 20 million views in the past few days. But the most heated conversation in the comments isn't about her music, her marriage, or her death. It's her $1 million donation to COVID-19 research and her decision to get vaccinated on camera in March 2021. So, I broke down three surprising things about Dolly and the COVID vaccine that almost nobody talks about - whether you supported the vaccines OR you deeply questioned them. WHAT THIS VIDEO COVERS 1. HOW IT REALLY HAPPENED. It started with a minor car accident in Nashville in October 2013, not a pharmaceutical company. At Vanderbilt University Medical Center she met Dr. Naji Abumrad, a surgeon who grew up poor in the mountains of Lebanon while she grew up poor in the mountains of Tennessee. They became friends, and his son Jad later made the podcast "Dolly Parton's America." When COVID hit, Dolly called him, learned academic labs were short on funding, and wrote a $1 million check in April 2020. That created the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund, which supported Dr. Mark Denison's lab and the blood tests used to measure immune response in early Moderna trials. She bought no stock, signed no contracts, and made no money. Federal funding to Moderna through Operation Warp Speed totaled roughly $2.5 billion, making her gift a fraction of one percent. 2. THE "NAIVE OLD LADY" MYTH. I think this badly misjudges who Dolly was. In 1974, Elvis Presley wanted to record "I Will Always Love You" - but Colonel Tom Parker demanded half the publishing rights. Dolly, in her twenties, said no and cried all night. Eighteen years later, Whitney Houston recorded it, and because Dolly kept her rights, she earned millions - which she used to buy an office complex in a historically Black Nashville neighborhood she called "the house that Whitney built." Not a woman who gets tricked. 3. WHY SKEPTICISM WAS NOT IRRATIONAL. Anyone who says the public had no reason to question the rollout is ignoring history: the 1955 Cutter Laboratories disaster, the abandoned 1976 swine flu campaign and Guillain-Barre Syndrome, congressional testimony in which Dr. Fauci said the six-foot rule "sort of just appeared," internal emails about evading public records law, and the FDA's expanded myocarditis and pericarditis warnings on mRNA vaccines. That pain is real, and I don't think it has ever been adequately addressed.
