Thanks for helping a new collector like me take care of his stuff. My wife teases me that my hobby is cleaning records, and sometimes listening to them

I buy a lot of records from antique shops (they can be a goldmine) . I always thoroughly clean them before dropping them on my turntable. I use a swiffer to remove any dust or debris that the records might have on them. It works GREAT! Just made sense to me the first time I tried it, I mean that's what the swiffer is specifically designed for 🤷♂️ it's like a dust magnet, and does not create static on the record. Highly recommend.

Here's my routine - First a several minute pre soak in a Spin Clean type ma hie with Grroovewasher G3 in it, then remove it, still thoroughly wet, and do a medium to heavy cycle in a Degritter II with Groovewasher Ultrasonic fluid. Then out and onto a vacuum machine where I remove the excess fluid before putting it into my KL Audio ultrasonic filled with distilled water. Then back onto the vacuum machine for a pure water rinse. Last a drying cycle in the KL. Yeah, I'm kind of nuts but it not only helps noise but often opens up the music and provides a blacker background due to the lower noise floor. I'm obviously a rinse freak....

I hang mine on the line and jet wash them. Saves a ton of time.

Before I play a record, I use a carbon fiber brush for several revolutions then abruptly lift the brush. This leaves a line of dust particles. I then use a Swiffer Duster refill, without the handle, to collect the dust. The Swiffer is engineered for the job.

Hi Marc. When you use a carbon fibre brush, like your Audioquest brush, you are charging the record with static electricity, so you are just pushing the dust around the record. Unless you then do something to neutralize the static, the dust will remain scattered around the record and will be concentrated where you lift the brush off the record. Plus, the statically charged record will draw even more dust out of the air. When you turn the record over to clean the other side of the record, the platter mat will come off with the record. You have to remove the static electrical charge to remove the dust. Only then can you blow the dust off of the record with high-pressure air. There are various devices to neutralize the static charge. I use the ZeroStat, which has been around for decades.
I didn't have much luck cleaning records with the Vevor ultrasonic cleaner. I tried different additives and they didn't help. All the Vevor is is just a generic ultrasonic cleaner with a power unit just clamped to it to spin the records. Plus it doesn't come with anything but a sheet of pictures to show you how to assemble the motor. No instructions of what fluid to put into the tank nor what temperature to set it to or how long to clean it. They state in the ads that it can clean the three most common sizes of records.I have thousands of 7" records in my collection with 99% having the large center hole. There are no provisions for that. The snap-in adapters work but you lose the label protection of the mounting discs. On top of that, the innermost grooves aren't submerged into the fluid, so a scum forms on those inner grooves.
I use brushes, the ZeroStat and high pressure air to clean the records. If that doesn't do the job, I then use my VPI RCM with the Mofi Plus enzyme record cleaner and that usually gets the job done. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought the ProJect RCM.
ALL brushes create static electricity from friction as does playing the record. Using fluid helps.
