  So sorry your whale watching trip caused seasickness. &nbsp;There are a few reasons for getting ill, one primarily caused by a conflict between your inner ear and your eyes when you are on moving water. &nbsp;However, the first mistake we make is not staying well hydrated days before the trip and during the passage. While dehydration is a common side effect of seasickness, being dehydrated to begin with can make you more prone to getting seasick. It’s a vicious cycle, and keeping water and other fluids down is crucial to breaking the cycle. &nbsp; Drinking coffee before a boat trip (without being fully hydrated) can worsen motion sickness. <br> <br>When I was younger, I learned to avoid excess coffee in the days leading up to and during the boat trip (and hiking at high altitudes). &nbsp;Caffeine (and alcohol) are diuretics that can contribute to dehydration. If you have coffee in the morning, drink a large glass of water first. Consider a lower-caffeine option like black or green tea. &nbsp;With that said, if the sea is going to swell and roll, you may just have to get through it. &nbsp;It is definitely a sensation I don&apos;t want to experience again. &nbsp;I&apos;d go out on a sailboat with friends into the San Francisco Bay. &nbsp;One time we went through the Golden Gate Bridge on a foggy day, and the swells and rolling really got to me. &nbsp;I wanted to crawl into the cabin and heave, but my friend made me stay on deck and take the wheel which helped. &nbsp; 🤮🥺
