Throughout the movie Grace complained of migraine (she shot herself in the head).

I love this film. One of the greatest haunted house/ghost story movies ever. I think the Academy got it wrong in 2001: they nominated Nicole Kidman for Best Actress for "Moulin Rouge" when it really should have been for this. She gave a terrific performance. As did the entire cast. Remarkable child actors. ❤

You're so right about a rewatch. Clues are satisfyingly scattered throughout the film.

I say this on every reaction, but the beauty of this movie is that you spend the entire time afraid you're going to see a ghost...when the whole time, you've done nothing but watch ghosts.

 - Nicole Kidman wanted to quit during rehearsals, as playing Grace gave her nightmares. "At one point I didn't want to make the film because I couldn't even go there emotionally."

- When the wandering Charles arrives home escorted by Grace, he meets Mrs. Mills, later revealed to be another person among the dead. When he approaches Grace in the fog and as he enters the room to greet his children, Charles' footsteps produce a sound not unlike the clanking of chains - which Anne had previously mentioned is a tell-tale trait of ghosts.

A brilliant concept. A ghost story from the ghost’s perspective. Such a good and still underrated movie.

one little thing I noticed when Grace told the housekeepers than the previous ones disappeared Mrs. Mills looks confused at the others, she realizes that Grace doesn't know she's a ghost herself.

Nicole does excellent accents. She has played various American accents perfectly.

An Australian actress playing a British woman living in a house in Jersey, a Channel Island, which is actually off the north coast of Spain.

Every time I see you three together, it makes me smile. My mother has dementia and I miss her very much.

The Victorians were obsessed with spiritualism. Photography was also taking off at the end of the Victorian era in England and people started to use it to memorialize their dead be they family or relatives. It all looks a little macabre now but for them without video recordings it was a way of keeping their memory alive.
