A bizarre, challenging, but ultimately entertaining interview.

This is grueling, sad and delightful. Martin had me collapsing in laughter. This is funny for all the wrong reasons... Dick seems to be in slow motion, but oh so witty at his peak in his day.

anyone watching this who thinks cavett isn't playing up the inept interviewer act for laughs, has no idea how much of a genius cavett truly is. incredibly funny interview from start to finish. what a perfect pair.

A bunch of the reasons i will always love and appreciate Martin Short really shine here. He has no interest in letting others fail or lose their dignity. The reviews I read about this interview just skewered Mr. Cavett. Imagine this night with anyone else in Marty's chair.
Marty wrote in his memoir about doing lots of preparing for interviews, always making sure he had several stories to tell, and that helped save this discussion.
And yes, this was still super weird :0)
