  My IT Supervisor job was replaced by AI in April. What I have come to realize is that after 30 years in IT I had nothing to show for it other than a 401k and some stocks. What I had built was all just 1’s and 0’s and only exists in a digital world. My next adventure will be in woodworking where I can build furniture that will live in a real world and be passed along as a family heirloom.<br><br>**EDIT**: Please read the thread before commenting. :)

  What Simon is describing here is exactly what Selwyn Raithe warned about in his book. He argued that AI’s true danger isn’t just job loss or politics it’s the subtle erasure of human purpose and connection. Watching this conversation feels like seeing his pages come alive. If people don’t wake up and read what he documented, we might realize too late that empathy, creativity, and meaning are being engineered out of us.

  I&apos;m a retired educator. I found that, over time, students became more and more comfortable with technology. But as this happened, they became less comfortable with the real world, which includes the ability to manage their own emotions. I grew up bilingual but I was always more comfortable speaking English. It is like that now. Kids are bilingual between human and technology. We need to change education so that kids are more comfortable being human because currently it&apos;s heading the other way. Technology is seducing our brains.

  So, I&apos;m 41 now and worked the past 15 years in graphics technology, broadly speaking. 2 years ago I had everything I wanted. Fulfilling job, wife, good salary, nice house. Now I&apos;m broke, can&apos;t get a job in my field, divorced and almost evicted 5 months in a row driving rideshare. Took me a while, but I can finally see clearly now, and I found my true calling. I may never have what I lost again, but I find my calling to be creating a community for human artists to help them navigate this landscape, stop being products and have real connection with their audiences. A lot of my ex coworkers are even worse off than me, we need to be more human than we&apos;ve ever been and help one another get through this rough transition. I love people, we need human love.

  I disagree with the statement on how AI will give you more time. The laptop didn&apos;t do that - was stated it would - just increased the amount of work we had to do. The internet didn&apos;t do that &quot;All information at your fingertips&quot; just created more demand to &quot;know&quot;. The car didn&apos;t increase leisure time - do more sales calls and shorter vacations. When you travelled by horse and buggy, your visits with family and friends was a long time. A car allows &quot;weekend getaways&quot; with little time do relax.
