To save money, feed the chickens 20% grass and 80% Feed. <br>To save money on the 80% feed REPLACE a standard commercial feed and instead CREATE/GROW YOUR OWN FEED. <br>To save money on growing your own feed use the chicken poop for your fertilizer. <br> <br>The feed will by necessity be composed of two crops: <br>Carbohydrate-dense seed crops combined with <br>High-protein seed crops: <br> <br>1. Protein & Fats (20–30% of total diet) such as field Peas, cow peas, Amaranth/Quinoa <br>2. Carbohydrates (Base 50–60% of total diet)such as Corn, Sorghum/Milo,Millet.. <br> <br>* You now have ZERO Feed costs and ZERO fertilizer costs from free poop and free plants. <br><i>___________________________</i> <br> <br>For example: <br>To sustainably feed 650 broilers over an 8-week period using a balanced, 100% home-grown diet (excluding small mineral supplements like oyster shell): <br> <br>• Legumes: ie Peas & Cowpeas (Protein Base - 30%): 1.0 Acre ~3000 lbs of legumes <br>• Corn & Sunflowers (Energy Base - 50% : 1.5 Acres ~5000 lbs of grain/seed <br>• Pasture / Grass (Foraging Portion - 20%) <br> <br>Total Grain & Legumes Cropland Required for 650 broilers: ~2.5 Acres
