  I worked for HMRC for 30 years and dealt with quite a few well known actors and TV personalities. In most cases, their income was basically just like an average job.

  What people don't seem to understand is that British actors and tv personalities don't get paid nearly as much as their Hollywood counterparts. Especially if they worked for the BBC.

  I met Michael Elphick in the pub he owned in Henley in Arden.  The white swan I think. He was in Boon at the time. Nice guy.

  Peter Wyngarde was not just Jason King, he was accomplished in theatre, musical theatre, cinema and most fields of entertainment. He was active in gay rights and though his private life as a gay man damaged his reputation it did not destroy him. As Clytus in the 1980 film Flash Gordon he appeared masked, but as soon as he spoke he was instantly recognisable thanks to his magnificent voice. His death scene in that film has gone down in history as one of the most memorable ever in science fiction movies.

  I remember Frank Skinner telling a joke about Rod Hull falling off his roof, trying to adjust his aerial to get a better reception of a Man Utd vs Inter Milan game in the Champions League quarter-finals. He joked that it would make the ultimate pub trivia quiz question:  "In what year did a draw between Man Utd and Inter Milan send Hull (City FC) down?"
