Everyone needs to at least learn a LITTLE Akkadian if they want to participate in the big Ea-nasir prank we are planning for the afterlife. He's going to be so suprised billions of people have read his mail and find his copper sus.

Recently I've been nerding out on Josh's latest book, Learn to Read Ancient Akkadian. Last summer I got back into studying Ancient Greek, and I have a few goals to chase after. But I'm working with Akkadian simply because it's fun and fascinating. I am looking forward to the next volumes of Learn to Read Ancient Akkadian, whenever they are ready, and somewhere down the road I hope I'll find that I have the time to devote to taking a course.

I'm sad that the plural of 'spouse' isn't 'spice'

I wonder how the first writer felt when they had the first completed cuneiform tablet only to realize that almost nobody else could read it.

I find the dynamic that the lesser is seemingly acting within the "righteous" law due to the failure of the "lord" to abuse slightly disturbing; but then the higher status person was just facing the echo of their own ruling hands, right? You get what you give?

What is amazing, the Hungarian version of "Poor man of Nippur" is "Ludas Matyi" ~ "Matthew the Goose Boy" was written about 1804 (CE of course), printed first in 1815 in Vienna - and the bad guy who is the mayor in the Nippur story is a landlord and was identified as VIktor Orbán, till Matyi the poor man/good guy as Péter Magyar the new prime minister who won the election. So the new version is so popular that is was used in the parlamentary election campaign, though the ancient origins are not really know widespread. The author is Mihály Fazekas btw - he's of course famous here.
