The trap the FL set up to get evidence of Tessas involvement, was brilliant.
She didn’t trust her anymore when she showed up. Thats why at the tribune she told Tessa “I trusted you ONES”. Meaning fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
When Tessa showed up & hugged her, the FL was already on alert & only PRETENDED to let her guard down.
She couldn’t conclusively prove who Tess was working with.
They all knew the original papers had been moved to a safer location, that’s why they let her walk around freely, but secretly kept an eye on her.
When Tess took the fake document & fled towards her boss, they were able to tie them as co-conspirators.

The only stupid thing the FL did, was to remain after he cheated on her.
But that’s also why she didn’t fight for him or her place as his mate. She relinquished it all the second he chose his mistress & revoked her authority.
But given the FL’s characteristics, I’m going to say that she stayed because she knew the entire pack was relying on HER work to function. This included children, elderly, & innocent pack members that had no say in politics.
She was also building up a case, because she had already noticed that someone was using her signature. If she fled she was guilty & wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.

But when he undermined her authority & the position she had been staying for, she knew that even if she stayed to keep the pack running, she wouldn’t be able to do her job properly. I’m guessing she still had hopes that he would stand up for her & protect her, when she brought up the inconsistencies & the evidence of her innocence.
So she said to hell with it, I’m out since you will no longer allow me to stand by your side, & fulfill my oath TO THE PACK (not him).
She fled because she knew she had nobody there to back her & help her.
Smart girl, I loved this incredibly brave & smart FL🫶🏻.

You guys have to keep in mind that in Werewolf lore, the bond keeps them tethered. It’s hard for her to stop loving him after so many years. Plus she had the bond strengthening her love & submission to him.

That’s what I hate about these lores. Only the female is affected by the bond, only the female feels the withdrawal & the immense pain of the shattered bond.
Meanwhile the cheater that sullied the sacred bond, gets to walk around screwing anyone he wants & breaking bonds. Without HIM feeling any pain.

Evelyn walking away in silence was so much more powerful than begging him to choose her.

No romance seen developing. Even five minutes of romantic relationship building could have made this into a true romance.

So stupid. They knew Tess was a risk and they let her walk around without a guard. They let her have access without proper authorization. They let her take evidence that was critical to their case. How old are they? Ten? Was the guard a complete idiot or was he paid? No legit guard allows random people working in an office go into a secure area. Stupid way to help story.

Her husband was cheating and she put up with it. Why do they have to be doormat?

Evelyn’s journey was truly inspiring! I love how she chose her self-respect and dignity over a toxic situation, showing incredible strength and maturity throughout the story. Walking away from Grant and building a new life with Reed was the best decision she could have made. This story teaches us that true peace comes from choosing ourselves first. Thank you for sharing such a powerful, captivating, and meaningful story! Dignity ❤

And they gave full authority to a council that already betrayed them. So stupid.

Listening from Kaitaia New Zealand 🇳🇿 - I loved listening to this story with its amazing storyline and the character of Evelyn Mercer who left his witness protection chain behind when her mate Alpha King Grant Holloway chose not to listen and held Sloan Avery instead. Grant had no idea what she had done for him till after she had gone and no one knew what power she possessed not even she did. She left for the tribunal council and discovered that she had been set up to make it look like she had betrayed Ironwood. She escaped and made it to the tribunal grounds just to be held in custody after military papers were found in her file bag. What happened after that was the reason why I kept listening to this fantastic story of a woman taking back her life one step at a time. Thanks for sharing this story which I enjoyed until the end.
