  an elder tells a story that does not resolve,  to a young man who wants a woman he cannot have. The lesson from the story is not "women are like this".  The lesson is "you will not fully understand what really happened, and you must make peace with it, and not act on your interpretation of it"

  I watched this film twenty years ago in the version with English subtitles for the dialogue. But I like this version too, more mysterious and impressionistic. A wonderful piece of cinema. I can't understand why it wasn't accepted as a nominee for the 79th Academy Awards best foreign language film. Maybe the panel didn't like the female nudity.

  Watching from Barbados 🇧🇧 &nbsp;on September 23rd 2026...Absolutely enjoyed this film.....good story line and &nbsp;I was fascinated by local tribes acting..I wish there were captions to show was was being said when they spoke thier native language and the qualityof the film was better.....Great work....<br><br>Great work guys
