My grandmother wasn’t a hoarder, but she was a kid during the great depression and she would wash and reuse solo cups, foam disposable plates, and ziplock bags. lol. I miss her so much. She drove my grandfather crazy with that. “We’re not poor anymore, Mary.” They were a hoot.

Those are Depression Era hoarding behaviors. Those bread bags protect your feet in the snow. The jars can be reused for storage. The magazines used to wrap things to protect them, to insulate walls, to burn in a pinch.

When I was younger the sweetest older lady lived next door to us.Her home was always clean , she gave us gifts for every holiday made us cookies and cakes. She had no kids of her own and had lost most of her family. My dad always cut her grass when he cut ours and because she didn't drive my mom took her to the store and dr appointments. Then it seemed over the years we saw her less and less. When she passed we were really surprised when we went in her home and it was so bad . People asked why people didn't help her but people tried. She wouldn't come to the door for us and was rude and nasty to people.A couple of family members tried to help but were told that no one could make her leave her house. We all loved her and wish we could have helped her.All this to say sometimes people do try to help but don't know what to do.Also she became a totally different person in her older years .I still think about her .🙏❤️

32:50 Around this point is where I had to pause the video, stare at the wall for a long moment, and remind myself that ultimately, soil is formed by the decomposition of organic materials. Therefore, what he's shoveling off the floor with a paint scraper is, in fact, organic material in the process of becoming soil. And I will keep telling myself that for as long as it takes to fully repress the dry heaves.

The vulture gets into the poop house and says "it's not that bad". No need to ask what kind of half-assed flip he was planning to do.

Cats will not vacuum, no matter how politely you ask. But they do help dust

Bro, I can't stand dumb a$$es like that guy who couldn't comprehend the word NO, even after you told him it was TOXIC. Then he had the nerve to bang on the door like the FBI and help himself in, WITHOUT protection or even asking. What is wrong with people 🙄😑🙄

Edit: btw, im watching you clean while I clean.

My mom died last year.
She was a hoarder.
I initially found 37 pair of scissors.
I found more later.
She was a “clean” hoarder but it was definitely out of control.
It took me 6 months to get everything down to an acceptable amount.
Mice had invaded every drawer, cabinet, shelf.
She would buy multiples of everything because she forgot she already had items.
I think they call this object constancy?
If she did not see it right away, it did not exist.
Hoarding is a terrible mental disorder.
I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Folks don’t always ken that anger is a symptom of depression. And, that depression can also be part of dementia, and an early indicator if other factors are present. My heart breaks for the lady. My mother was 94 when she passed, but her life was a complete 180 from that poor soul. Having loved ones very present in your life when you’re elderly makes a world of difference.

My mother-in-law was the cleanest person you would ever meet. She would even go to other people's houses and clean their house for them and they would pay her because she was a really good cleaner. But once she got dementia her house got so bad and she tried to hide it from us. We would go over to her house multiple times a week but then after a while we noticed she was making excuses of why we couldn't come. And then one time after months of us trying to get in there we got in there and we saw how her house was and we were like oh my gosh. And then we convinced her to move in with us cuz we told her you can't live like this you need someone to take care of you. When she lived with us we smelled something awful and I said what is that smell and we looked and saw that she put some meat in a bottom cabinet because she thought it was a freezer and so we had to throw it out. And my husband said I can't believe it she was she went from the cleanest person ever. That's what dementia does. It's so sad. When we came to move her stuff into our house we told her she couldn't take everything cuz we didn't have room so we told her to pick out what was most important to her and she was saving magazines and paperwork and we're like don't you want some clothes? It was like she couldn't decide what was important and what wasn't an important so then we had to do it for her we're like okay well we'll do it.
