We see your concerns about sponsorship overlap. We hear you!

Just to be clear on Chup policy:
Our sponsors don’t get any editorial say. They don’t even get to see the video (besides the sponsorship segment itself) before we publish.
And, in this case, we had been working on this research well before we knew what brand would sponsor the video.

Wait, so the answer to my data problem is trusting another for-profit entity with it?

What if I told you that the companies that sold the removal of your personal information were the same that collected it in the first place? What if I told you it was just another subscription service you were tricked into paying for?

The way the DeleteMe ad read happened made it seem like this whole investigation was for an ad. Which sucks because captcha does seem like it's overreaching

You would be surprised at how many common consumer technologies have surveillance baked into them. There are inkjet printers that use invisible ink watermarks to create unique identifiers on printed paper.

    1. Bad sponsorship.
2. Keep in mind that Google Analytics poses the same threat, except that Recaptcha can't be blocked in order to use some website functionality.

I am a Linux user with default forced screen resolution with spoofed traffic and UAgent and this makes so much sense why I get ReCaptcha checkboxes quite often....

Saying “stop making dinner and listen, this is important” and then whipping out the ad read was both diabolical and inspired.

great video, but I’ll echo things other people said. I don’t expect every YouTuber to run their channels in a very ethical manner.
But when it’s a channel like this that builds rapport, trust, and handles topics with journalistic integrity, there is a clear dissonance between the image you’re cultivating vs. the way you segway into the ad. I saw your clarification about sponsorship overlap, and it’s not the topic overlap that’s the problem, but the casual switch into the “I use a tool for this” that offers your sponsor as if it’s a solution to all these problems. Which does make this video appear like it’s just a giant ad, whether it was your intention or not.

I think your blessing and curse is that your audience expects a lot out of you. Hopefully you can distinguish ads in a better way in the future. Loved the video topic though :)
