If alarms are constantly alarming, I quickly become no longer alarmed.

Similar to the cosplay: if I'm struggling to get up (bed, couch, whatever), I pretend I'm under a witch's curse in a fantasy movie, and I have an audience of children going "break the curse, get up, you can do it!!!" No idea where I got that from but it makes it feel like an epic battle instead of a pathetic struggle.

My weird hack that works literally every time: Instead of a to-do list, I make a to-done list. Instead of making a list of a million little things I should get done and then maybe doing half of them, I take a out a index card each morning, and every time I do something that I have resistance against doing (taking out garbage, clearing papers around my desk, starting laundry, ext.) I draw a little box and write down what I've done and then immediately check the box off. Part of the premise being that if I fill the card up by the end of the day I will have done enough to not feel like shit about my day when I lay down for bed. This works for me because I love the two minute rule, but I'm a bit forgetful, so even if I had actually done a bunch of stuff that day, I would still go to bed discouraged because I forgot about what I had done! It's also nice because not all tasks are created equal, so if something took me say 15-30 minutes, I can choose 1-5 minute tasks for the next few boxes, and it's kind of like rewarding hard work with easier work in a way that still feels like a little game. Oh yeah and the best part is that you can WIN! If I fill up my whole card, no matter if it's noon or 7pm it means that I off the hook from any more tasks/chores for that day, I'm clocked out, I finished my workload and now I can spend the rest of my day on youtube or vegging out guilt free! Great vid btw!

Old lady simulator is good. I tell myself everytime I leave “what if a baddie wants to come home with me” and quickly pick anything up the imaginary baddie wouldn’t wanna see 😂

If I have a task I'm dreading, I give myself permission to work as slowly as possible.

It's kind of fascinating how people (ADHD or otherwise) seem to be waaaaay more motivated to do anything for someone else than for themself.

i take the future me / past me thing a tiny bit further and imagine i'm basking in the warm glow of future me's appreciation whilst doing a yucky task, then when I am future me I remember to send thanks back. it really is real life time travel

Firstly thank you for saying off the rip that not all ADHD is the same. As a late diagnosed lady the amount of time I'm told I can't have ADHD because I don't look like a hyperactive kid is exhausting. Gotta head to the gym but can't wait for the full video later today. My number one hack is probably my stop watch, making anything a competition to do it faster and more efficient will always fire my brain up

The "everything sitting on a photo of itself" hack is something we use with students with various special needs. It works really well! The most important part is the initial set up, make sure it works well. If you find yourself always putting certain things in different places than its photo, it might be an indication that those items should have their photo moved to a better home that better fits your natural inclination. In school, that could simply be putting the pencil case on the other side of the table for example. Even though I use these things with my students, some things just never crossed my mind to actually use them myself lol. Probably should!

22:12 An idea I came up for for theoretical having kids one day (I turned out to be the kid) is to take pictures of the room when perfectly clean. Then when it's dirty, you look at them and spot the differences. It helps with mess blindness.
