This is a review of the modern Dino Crisis bundle now available on GoG. Cheers to GoG for sponsoring the vid and helping me run the game in windowed mode!
https://bit.ly/dino_crisis

Imagine you're a scientist working in a lab in a 90's capcom game: It's your lunch break and you want to get a sandwich from the kitchen... but you forgot to bring your hex shaped crank, security card, armor key, other security card, square shaped crank, lockpick, weed killer, sheet of Salieri's moonlight sonata, and sword key... and you have to be back at your work station in 30 minutes.

GOG sending you a screenshot with MS Paint numbering to find the manual is perfection. Hilarious.

A subtle health indicator is actually the music- the more damage you take, the more off the background music becomes.

I was plaing this with another friend of mine back when we were 11 years old. Mind you, we were two Brazilian kids who didn't speak English. At some point, we were stuck without realizing the codes were upside down on those cards. We tried everything. Every combination, anything. As a joke, my friend said, well, maybe look upside down, which was something we said as a joke when we couldn't solve a math problem in class. We cheered and celebrated when it worked, only to be scared shitless when the t rex broke through the window. His mom came to the room and told us to turn the video game down. We got caught because of that. haha So memorable.

Actually I believe the reason why they switched back to pre-rendered backgrounds in the sequel to this game is because of its action game focus, in the first game there was only ever going to be like a few dinos on screen at once, but in the sequel you're fighting waves so they needed the extra processing power

"Regina has no personality" not 5 minutes later shows a scene of her expressing a personality.
- Mocking and making fun of Gail and light of the situation
- Punching the scientist after he belittles Gail's sacrifice
- "You're extinct!"

She has just as much personality as Jill did in the original Resident Evil.

Just a few details about the PC version:

The GOG distribution is just patched to run in modern hardware with just ONE true modification done to the game itself. Vanilla PC ran at an unstable framerate that would try to match 30 FPS but in reality it was like 25-ish for most of the time. GOG version either runs at a stable 30 or 60. The PS1 was obviously 30.

Both PC and GOG versions run the cinematics at 15 FPS while the PS1 version ran at 24. Plus artifacts in the PC ports are obvious to the eye, not as brutal as the PC versions for Resident Evil 3 which had 15 FPS and 16-bit color depth, both half of what the PS1 had to begin with.

The unlockable costumes were indeed unlocked from the start in the original PC port, GOG just carried out that design. The same happened with Resident Evil 3, the original PC port had the costumes unlocked too and the follow up port from Source Next in 2006 kept that design.

The flickering of the 3D assets was indeed a problem with the PS1's Z-Buffer, something the original PC port inherited and since the GOG version is just a compatibility patch for modern hardware IT KEPT that bug despite the difference in hardware to which the PC port was aimed.

The texture warping and model flickering in the game comes from the atrocious Sub Pixel Precision of the PS1 hardware, to explain it simply: the PS1 could calculate the position of the polygons and textures within a certain range around a pixel in the screen. With more Precision more exact data with less, well, less exact positioning. This meant that if a polygon's edge was designed to appear in "pixel 150" in the screen the PS1 will locate that edge in a circle 3 pixels AROUND "pixel 150" producing a flickering where the edge would "dance" around "pixel 150" instead of existing where it was designed. While the PS1 HAD a co-processor capable of more precise Sub Pixel calculation the console NEVER used this, and developers had to either endure the standard bugs in the calculation or do Sub Pixel Precision thru a software solution, for example Spyro uses a software "patch" for this problem meaning that the game barely had any polygon flickering or texture warping, while other games like Medal of Honor or Gran Turismo had a MASSIVE amount of warping and flickering.

FOR SOME REASON the original ports from Dino Crisis and Resident Evil (trilogy) KEPT this shortcomings despite the fact that the hardware intended for them (PC) was MORE THAN CAPABLE to run the games in perfect condition.

For anyone interested Gemini produced patches for Dino Crisis and the Source Next ports of Resident Evil (including the OG RE1 port from 97) which fix this problems alongside a LOT of shortcomings from the original ports like bad audio, obsolete controller drivers and unstable framerate.

Well... such a wall of text but I hope this info is useful to whoever endured the reading.

Idk. A red-headed bombshell that’s cool but rude, is level headed, combat savvy, and more competent than her teammates is quite memorable. What more do you expect from this character?

Hearing Regina talk, her voice sounded so familiar. Looked up the voice actress just now and saw it’s the same actress that voiced Sailor Venus on the DiC dub of Sailor Moon.
