Due to Channel 4’s important April 1, 1986, broadcast, the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) advised broadcasters to avoid airing content that could be taken as true or factual by viewers, in order to prevent misunderstandings, public panic, or confusion."

32:48 I love the fact that one of the first shows on the all-Welsh channel was about the Dallas Cowboys...!

The "April 11th" April Fool's gag channel 4 broadcast in 1986 was genuinely innovative in that it represented the alternative and more liberal attitude of the channel in doing something more fun. At the time I'm sure some viewers probably genuinely believed it.

30 years next year since Channel 5 launched 😱 I remember it so well and the sheer excitement of having a fifth TV channel especially when we did not have satalite Or cable at that time. Wow! Crazy to think that was so long ago now.

ITV2 did also launch on Analogue cable. I remember it well.

Adam, I did some looking and Billie Piper's cover of "It Takes Two" was released as a B-side to her single "She Wants You" from 1998.

I love your treatment of S4C, some of my kids are native Welsh speakers, we made sure as I was living in Wales as they grew up. S4C was essential viewing.

A quick glance through BBC Genome shows BBC2 was broadcasting from Jan 4 1964, which appeared before the actual launch on April 20 to be test programmes only. Test cards and movies, mainly.

I actually miss the days of cut-glass accents and TV closedown. It was a nice way to properly end the day!

10:07 was perhaps the most epically inappropriate start to a tv station ever 😂……

11:35 - In 1964 they didn't have ear pieces for presenters connecting them to the production gallery. A telephone on the news desk was the way the director and producer could contact the newsreaders. This all changed by the 1970s, when new ear pieces were finally installed, with open talk back with the production gallery. I do know ITN newsreader Reggie Bosanquet hated using the ear piece, as you heard all of the production gallery whilst you were trying to read the news live on air

I remember the launch of Channel 5 and how it evolved into late night crap "adult" TV over the next few years as it changed ownership 😂😂
