I worked for years with a guy who would say "P as in Pterodactyl," just to drive his students bonkers.

I work at a job where clients spell things for me over the phone. Once had someone say to me “E as in ‘eye’”

I wish we taught this alphabet in school. I remember once on the phone I couldn't tell if someone was saying B or P, and she said "P as in Paul", which I misheard as "B as in Ball".

In high school I was part of an aviation program, we were all familiar with the alphabet because we were also flying, one of the students ordered pizza over the phone and was reciting the address for the school at pretty good speed like “215 Tango Romeo Oscar Juliett” and the pizza guy says “You’re ordering a pizza not calling in an airstrike I’m gonna need you to slow down a bit” and it absolutely sent us

22:35 I'm gonna start saying "You are therefore requested to reconsider the desirability of pressing your point at this time" instead of "shut up" from now on

Funny note about Delta (the letter and the airline) -- until recently the Atlanta airport train system would announce terminals using the NATO alphabet (like "the next stop is for T gates, T as in Tango") EXCEPT for terminal D, which was said as "David."

Atlanta is Delta Airlines' biggest hub, and they didn't want to confuse people into thinking this was the terminal for all Delta flights.

I used to say "unicorn" instead of "uniform" as a joke, then one day accidentally used "unicorn" on the radio with the coast guard during a marine rescue operation.
