I find engineers often limited and obsessive/intractable in their thinking. The buried water pipe passive heating system was a foolish, expensive and ineffective choice for a stone/brick house. They are going to have to heat anyway through winter. I am an experienced developer and practical designer.

A mason who doesn't know the old mortar system. His facade will last 30 years before needing major repairs. The old builders knew what they were doing and why their houses lasted hundreds of years.

They always add contemporary extensions in these as a sort of juxtaposition new with the old, but it's just rubbish.
