I recently weaned off an SNRI and I have noticed increased anger and when I read the title "anxiety is actually anger" I thought, "bingo."

I beg to differ with “I don’t know” in therapy - I have a lifetime of repression, with no emotional learning other than life itself and I truly find my emotions confusing and nuanced. I often struggle to know what the heck I am feeling or why. It takes a lot of time to start to sit, and then start to process. It takes practice. It is not always a cop out. I super appreciated this convo - great work! ❤

when you're called selfish by a selfish person and you're addicted to being selfless.......yes, anger is there.

I always described myself as angry. I knew it was anger, but came out as anxiety. Fear of being too much, fear of being overreacting, of being rejected for expressing anger. I had panic attacks in my early thirties. Some years ago I started working through all my anger, because I eventually couldn’t sleep anymore because there was so much anger, mostly against me. But key is to set boundaries, that helped a lot to re-regulate. Sleep is still difficult, but becoming better. And skipping helps. I am literally skipping my anger out.
And I am aware of my anger now. It is not that easy anymore to overrun my boundaries, sometimes I am still overreacting, but it doesn’t bother me anymore that much. If I feel I have to apologize, I apologize. The only part I disagree in this episode: no, we are not all the same, there are narcissistic people out there, who feed from your fear, anxiety and pain. Be aware. We live in a narcissistic society and kindness is often seen as weakness. Value your boundaries. They matter.

OUTSTANDING episode. I related to everything discussed. What a generous gift to have useful tools laid out for me to excavate the anger. My rage has deep roots, and present day news keeps me working on accepting reality without losing sight of the productive activities I can choose to process and let go of the anger. My body not only keeps the score, it holds a mighty bitter grudge collection as well. This episode is BRILLIANT.

Very helpful! For me feelings helplessness often present as anger. My therapist helped me name my needs and address the helplessness instead of overcompensating and getting more and more angry at the other person. Dismissive people really still piss me off, but I'm dealing with it better now.

Wow! This sounds like what happened with Lindsey Clancy here in MA. Having her third child put her over the edge. We are still accountable though for our behavior.

Thanks so much for sharing. I am in AA also and did the steps with a big book step study process. God and the steps saved my life. Yes! Resentment is the number one offender! ❤👏

You just helped me name the feeling... Resentment. A lot of this anxiety is definitely anger.

Years ago, I started asking my coaching clients “if your anxiety could talk what would it say? “ it’s a wonderful tool that can reveal so much information.

On the flip side, anxiety can present as anger. A Hospitalist explained this to me when my husband was in the hospital. His fears about his health and inability to control his circumstances caused overwhelming anxiety that showed up as anger.

Watching you being in the moment looking at your own world is so interesting. You are in therapy and I’m watching and you are normalizing all this right before my eyes impressive
