Not presidents, prime ministers or decorated military officers, just ordinary people prepared to put their lives on the line to save a stranger. These are our real heros.

I can't get over how the helicopter pilot - a very, very brave man - comments on how he couldn't get over how brave the lifeboat crew were. All I could think was that this is coming from such a brave person himself!

The orange boats of the RNLI are iconic for all us Brits, every seaside town we love has its own and we're excited to wave them off and welcome them home. They're the bravest of us, they don't get paid to risk their lives, they ask no questions, only how they can help. I'll forever admire them all.

"O hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea." The RNLI are the best of humanity and it is always worth repeating, they are not paid, they are volunteers.

You need to check Grace Darling , Victorian heroine who saved life’s of the Northumberland Coast in a rowing boat with her Dad
She was my Great Grandmothers cousin 💔

Wow. Thank you both for showing this. As a fellow American, I have never heard of this before. This was such a powerful story of human compassion and courage. May There Memories always be Eternal!

Think about this. Within 24 hours of the tragic loss of all men on the Solomon Browne, enough young men from the local area had volunteered to crew an emergency replacement lifeboat.
Including Neil, the son of the lost mechanic, who appears in the documentary but doesn't mention this monumental fact. He was 17.
The (insurance fraud) myth that the Cornish were wreckers can be firmly put to bed. Any seafaring community will ALWAYS help others in peril on the sea.
