Steve Grad was great! A while back Steve suggested I send a Mantle and Ali to an Authentication quick review. Both came back slabbed. That $10 was well worth it. Now that Steve has this service, I'll probably use him next time.

Props to HOJ - Robinson was also a Triple Crown winner in one of his MVP seasons and the first Black manager in MLB. And for a long time the all-time HR list went Aaron, Ruth, Mays, Robinson....

Great show gentlemen, the famous DC made a solid point when talking about comps. He mentioned specifically that with vintage cards, comps in many cases won’t matter as much bc each card is a 1/1 not every copy looks identical and some buyers have different priorities of what means the most with them with condition. Each card should be like buying a piece of art work, not all work is the same, there is fading, and other aging aspects that will make a card appear a certain way. I definitely agree with DC and this applies to rare 90’s cards as well, with greening, etc. I always enjoy watching the show the whole squad is the “hobby dream team”of card content 🔥 👏

Also, one last thing, there is an equation for cards to have specific assigned value. For example, I believe it’s Goat + Event= Exponential Growth. Back in the day, Campy who was a 3 time MVP in one of the best baseball markets had an early career ending accident and the generation that collected adored him a ton. That’s why you see his cards ranked really high in 52’ historically speaking. Same with Kobe, GOAT + Event (tragic death)=exponential growth. Same can be said for many others. Jordan had his event with the “Last Dance” etc. Jackie is incredible and there is a lot of hobby content coverage on him. Rightfully so he is a legend in many ways.

This old man falls a sleep because its late here in the east coast but enjoyed watching the whole thing Sunday. Steve Grad has authenticated my Clemente and others but also nixed my Koufax on a 1958 Topps bought from a former authenticator for PSA for my 1958 autographed set sadly. Cannot wait to use SPA. Look forward to cohost and good start with Graig Miller.

SPA Grading! Epic! 😅😅 I have the top corner of a, Im guessing , a 1951 Howe rookie, you think SPA grading could complete the card for grading? Im also pretty sure he had autographed it..😅

I'm going to try and not ramble but the last segment of this episode was so applicable to me and my journey back into the hobby over the past year I felt compelled to share a little. I made so many mistakes over the past year... even after binge watching countless hours of content. Unfortunately... the plethora of content is both a blessing and a curse. All content is bias in one way or another. It just is. So... as a newbie it can feel and is near impossible to discern what bias is actually good advise and which isn't... which to 'follow' or 'emulate', etc... and which not to. Every subject in the hobby/industry is slanted by the content provider. Honestly.. only now.. a year into binge watching content and hobby trial and error/practice do I actually feel comfortable in my own skin.. and in my hobby decisions. In an effort to try and keep this short.. I'll summarize what I've learned so far and what I've put into practice.

#1... DO NOT underestimate FOMO. The faster you get JOMO (Joy of missing out!-thanks to Mike the Junk Wax hero for that acronym!) the faster you will progress in this hobby. By progress... I mean you will find what you actually love and what you actually have passion for WAY faster than you otherwise would if you are chasing FOMO lanes. I ask myself a question every single time I'm buying a card. Would I love this card even if it's value went to $0!?
#2... Hobby OGs have laid the foundation... STOP ignoring it. OGs have done the leg work for us rookies. Don't chase what they like... instead focus on the principals they use(d) to find the great cards and sets, etc. You can collect whatever you want... but if you do have at least a small interest in your card purchases actually having >= value down the road then you need to focus on the OG principals. Do you even know the principals... things like scarcity/demand, aesthetics, player aura/story/moment/influence, etc?
#3... When the market is zigging.... ZAG for goodness sake! Use the OG principles and find the card/player/set/lane that makes a ton of sense to buy into while everybody else is focused on the big shiny thing the whole market is talking about.
#4... For the love of all things... OF ALL THINGS!!! Buy the card... not the grade! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS!
#5... If your going to try to flip some cards in an effort to fund your hobby/PC.... GOOD LUCK! Your going to need it. It's just way harder than most make it sound. Don't say you were never warned!
#6... Appreciate guys like JLee and the gang and show them some love. I really mean that. You can fill up hours of your day listening to guys with this hot take and that hot take... but 99.9% of the content these days is focused on making $$. 6 months back into the hobby I would say I was subscribed to somewhere around 15-20 youtube channels. Now... at a year into the hobby I'm at 6. When it's all about the mighty $$... the content gets old... pretty darn quick.

What y’all should do is stop promoting grading, it’s killing the hobby, greed has set in it’s destroyed trust and with no trust no love so everything is turning too $$$$$$ you 🤡’s have poison the hobby.
