  this song was written for his dad when he had kidney disease and james and his sisters weren&apos;t a match to give him what he needed, so they thought they were losing him, but a distant cousin of theirs matched.. meaning he had the needed surgery and recovered <br><br>james label wanted to edit the song to make it sound &quot;better&quot; but james refused because he wanted to show the emotion of the song <br><br>and yes that is his dad in the video.. and fun fact his dad was the only person not crying on the video shoot and was like &quot;why&apos;s everyone crying? i&apos;m not dead yet!&quot;

  This was done in one take with his dad sat next to him. His dad asked why everyone was crying because he wasn’t dead yet. Thankfully a kidney donor came in the nick of time.

  Both James and his Father were Army Officers in the British Military. &nbsp;At one time in their careers, they were both being deployed and it was difficult for them to say goodbye. &nbsp;James&apos; father came up with the saying, &quot;I&apos;m not your father, you&apos;re not my son, we&apos;re just two grown men saying goodbye&quot;. &nbsp;James turned it around and used it in the song.

  Yep that was his Dad in the video. And his dad was actually dying at that point of Stage 4 kidney disease.. James and his sister unfortunately wasn&apos;t a match to donate a kidney and his dad already donated one his kidneys so it wasn&apos;t really looking good for his dad..<br>This song was released and a distant cousin saw the video. Got in contact with the Blunt family. Started talking and got tested to see if the cousin was a match.<br>And he was! He tested positive and because of this video his dad is now well and alive.<br>Such an amazing story...<br><br>Also <b>The Girl that never was</b> by James Blunt is a good one. Maybe not as sad but not far from it.

  If you think this one is sad then try The girl that never was. James Blunt certainly knows how to bring tears to a grown man’s eyes

  He wrote the song when his dad was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease. Fortunately his dad had a kidney transplant and survived. <br>I could say things like this to my mom. She played the part of mom and dad ❤❤❤

  This song changed a lot of people&apos;s lives as people around the world signed up to the donor register and they chased the monsters away for his father and a lot of other people around the world. &nbsp;Also all the proceeds from this song were donated to the Help the Heroes charity of great Britain which helps take care of our veterans and their families as both Colonol Charles Blunt and Captain James Blunt were both part of our military. &nbsp;Legends. &nbsp;God bless . <br>The song was first a poem written by one of his sisters and james saw the potential to it putting it to music so it was a beautiful tribute to him.
