The proverb of the time was "Fortress besieged by Vauban, fortress taken. Fortress built by Vauban, fortress impregnable". Many people also forget his writings on agricultural yields, animal husbandry, how a farm should operate with maximum efficiency, the guy was a practically universal genius.

Nice to see a military leader more concerned with his soldiers than his accolades

For anyone wanting to see well maintained Vauban-style military architecture, consider visiting Malta. The Hospitaller knights were obsessed with building fortified cities and structures, and when the pope bankrolled them after they won the Great Siege against the Ottomans they just went nuts😂

8:15 Pretty sure at this point, the Netherlands already used Defence Flooding in the entire Holland region. And I am sure others in the past had used it as well.

Two minutes in, and I'm so impressed with the quality of this documentary! Yay! The reconstructions look phenomenal, the aerial shots are stunning, the narrator isn't impossible to listen to (sounds human even!), and I am looking forward to spending every minute checking out this entire doc. Thanks, must have taken a lot of work!

One of the best documentaries I've seen in a long while. YouTube subtitles continue to be atrocious though.
