this is the exact reason why i'm getting back into gaming, i'd rather lose an hour to gaming than scrolling

…Not 45 minutes have passed, 3 hours have passed. It fries your brain

I can relate. I dont do any social media but I do spend a lot of time on YouTube. I break my hand held out to fill time. It's relaxing with no micro tranactions or the need to open chests or report back for prizes.

I usually throw my phone in my backpack and keep a dsi in my pocket where my phone used to be. And it fixed my addiction

These are so addictive to buy, I have like 9 of them. Every time I see a $70 game I want I just buy one of these instead. I have given away 5 Anbernic RG28XX as gifts at $30-$40 a pop you can't go wrong!

The algorithm decided to throw this video my way and you did such a great job that I'm throwing a comment here for the algo boost!

This resonated a ton with me, we do waste way too much time doomscrolling, sometimes to the point I'd stop playing a game or watching a show just to see if the doomscrolling feed updated.

Sometimes it's best to just sit back, relax, play something, we need that leisure time to mentally recharge.

My phone has carried me a bit with the emulators but I feel it's time to save up money for a retro-handheld, hopefully I'll get it sometime in feburary!

Great video man! Keep up the good work!

Shout out to your badass grandma. My great grandma bought me a new game a month as a kid for a period of time. Such a blessing

been thinking about this very topic for a week or so, tired of doomscrolling reels. yesterday i got a controller for my phone and i'm having a blast playing some NES and PS1 games instead of watching hundreds of mindless vids. and now you make this video... good timing! i think there are lots of people like us, really tired of the overstimulation of social media. sitting down to watch a movie or play a game made by humans, with a cohesive history and design really hits hard this days.

Don't forget the main thing - you can save at any time with save states, not like on original hardware. Also, even if you drop it (this Anbernic RG35XX Plus), you can still use it like a console by connecting it via a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and pairing with a controller over Bluetooth. Custom OS like Knulli scales well on TV. I have this exact device for half a year already, but in retro gray color.

2:13 I can confirm. I spent several years working on that. It’s not something you do consciously though, you just make changes to the app, measure, and choose the change that brings more money to the company. I’d even say the apps evolve to be more addictive.

There is actually a good reason to get more than one of these budget handhelds, and that is the aspect ratio and/or screen size. Controls are also important.
